OcUK Dadsnet thread

We've not once warmed formula, with powder and boiling water obviously it has some heat by the time we feed, but with the bottled formula he has it straight from the fridge, no issues.

the tommee tippiee perfect prep thing was probably the best thing we bought.

no bigger than a coffee machine, scoop formula and press a button, bottle ready to go in seconds.

All this chat about prepping bottles and boiling water to sterilise the powder... Am I the only muggins that pays extra for ready mixed formula? By some crude maths I did, it's about 80% more expensive than buying powdered, but 1000% more convenient. No boiling water, no tommy tippee machine taking up half the kitchen. We tried powders for a bit but the milk always looks a bit gammy and our son never really liked it as much. It also looked really dodge if put back in the fridge for a couple of hours. I know that's supposed to be a no-no in any situation, but we've always done that with premixed formula and never once had a problem.

We just sterilise the bottles using the plastic microwave sterilisers which are great.
We did a mix of both. But like anything you gotta have a bit of discipline otherwise you end up spending a fortune. We just used the premix for 3am emergencies

We used to have the ready mades for the morning feeds and in the bag for when out and about.

To be fair we used to make all the bottles we needed in the morning and put them in the fridge, warm them up when needed and she was good to go. Never had any issues or stomache crap that the midwife warned us about.,

Maybe OCUK, should do a list of required crap and stuff no one needs for new fathers

Yeah the ready to drink bottles are great for out and about, but once you've had a Perfect Prep you can't go back, same for the electric steriliser. We found this out when we went on holiday! :o

Also the small power dispenser things are great too, we have 5 of them lined up ready to go. (they came with the steriliser)

I think I'm going to need it! the first couple of weeks will be a roller coaster as it is with any new life that comes into your family but things will soon settle down and we will get into a routine, slightly different with two though, then again we have done it 3 times already just not two in one go

Oh and yes I am going to have the snip now, it was only suppose to be 4 not 5 kids

I've had singletons and then twins, you may think you'll know what you're doing but......nope.

"Soon settle down" *snigger* ahem :D

Ours in on prescription stuff, which has recently been changed to this stuff.

https://loretogallo.com/uk/nutricia...t-food-for-infants-4x200ml?code=5ac5ea7f435ab

£11 for 4 x 200ml, glad im not paying for it.

Still goes in the microwave for 30 seconds to warm it up. Its good for 6 hours after opening as well.

Definitely handy though, when out and about just ask for a jug of boiling water. In an emergency and hes starving he will take some of it cold. Surprised he has any though it tastes like sick.

Prescription formula is horrendous stuff , must smell different to them than us because christ it can make you heave if some is left in a bottle when your out for the day

Nope, ready mixed was fantastic as time went on, yes more expensive but no messing around with powder , plus the small ones were great to take out with us.

Oi, this is dadsnet, not mumsnet. We should never aspire to be so organised.
Precisely why we need to unite against our other halves who are so easily guilt tripped into breaking the bank!

I'd be happy to update the OP with the consensus on "New dad essentials and things not to bother with"

He's sort of half right. He'll soon settle into the state of insanity that will be his life for the next few years.

In that case...

Don't bother with any fancy clothes or anything that is not essentially a grow for at least the first 6 months! The amount of lovely little outfits we were bought but never used is ridiculous and sad really. Trousers on babies are just a stupid idea. Vest + grow. Done!

Yeah, maybe one cute outfit for the first round of "we have a baby" outings, but that's it.

Only around 3 weeks to go until my twins arrive :) Trying to get the other 3 kids prepared and also get everything else prepared as well, good times! lol
Just at Week 30 with twins arriving soon. Got no other kids so no practice runs for either of us! I think we're as well prepared as we can be.

Still bricking it though.

Nothing wrong with trousers ours had lots, all had buttons up and around each leg though so were very easy to change him.
The wife airways wanted him dressed nicely he has tonnes of outfits.

Oh I'm gonna say this: the little grow suits that button down the sides are inferior to the ones that go down the front and split at the legs. The latter are way easier to change imo

Plus you can get a better grip on the front button ones when you child realises they can turn around in bed and kick the hell out of the head board.

Everyone always says it, but it never ceases to amaze me how quickly they grow! Nearly 6 months and loving life.

Yeah it goes quickly alright. I still remember my daughter falling asleep on my chest like a little pillow. Now she falls asleep on me like a bag of cement.

Still, I love that now I can have little conversations, and listen to her thoughts on things (often hilarious or sweet). Essentially they continue to get more awesome is what I'm saying.
