as my wife is a teacher we need to go in term time as she's at school too disney for example is 3K vs 8K. not paying that...
as we dont want to spend silly amounts we not been on a real hoilday in 5 years just weekend breaks

Which disney? When I had a look a few months ago comparing day June to August didn't really change the prices (although that was Orlando, Paris seems mega overpriced).

What's everyone's thought on family holidays during term time?

I've tried to avoid doing it but when looking at flight prices, tempted to just say **** it next time and do it.

Recent flight to Cancun for 3 of us over half term week - £600 each, 1 week later, £350 each - exact same route/airline/time.

Considering it's £120/fine per day across a week, it would have been cheaper pulling him from school for the week.

Oh I agree, we want to do it for 2 weeks, either maybe a week at each. Not this year though. Kind of hoping the pound recovers so we don't get shafted as much.

If we were to go 2 weeks before it would have been a third of the price. Worst thing is my employer still does a 2 week shut down at the start of the summer holidays, utter rubbish and we have contested it so many times.

Childcare is excluded, my 2 are too much for more than an hour with both sets of grandparents and other family lol.

Pretty sure each day counts as an individual absence - probably worth making sure before you find yourself coming back to a £1200 fine for 2 weeks!

why do they charge the fine per parent??

I am not looking forward to paying fines to pull them out of school to go on holidays.....
Few years to go before that happens, I guess I will start saving!
For now if we want to go anywhere, we book Thu/Friday off, as my older one goes to nursery beginning of the week. I don't like being away on Mondays, it's nice not being at work, but he misses out on whole day of nursery, which we still pay for until next term.

Just do it.

At the very least, get a flight out 1 week before term ends.

You can usually self-certify for 5 days on sickness. However, yes they fine per parent, per week.

We have Lapland booked in early December, can't afford nearer to Christmas. If they fine me, so be it.

I'll admit, this is word of mouth from other parents that claim to have fallen foul of it so maybe i've misheard. When trying to find clear information online, it's not easy as just get varied LA results.

From my local authority... Seems it's £60 per parent for a whole week "5 school days or more"

So I am seperated from my wife so do both parents still have to pay, surely it is just me if I took them on holiday before term ends??
