**OcUK Exclusive** MSI Extreme Overclocking Competition.

It's an MSI competition, they specify the rules, they don't even have to give anyone anything at all, so how can people complain?

I don't have an MSI board or the latest CPU, so I can't enter either, but I think its a nice gesture to people who have been customers of MSI.

TL;DR STOP WHINING.

I agree its a good gesture of MSI to be giving anything away. And they must be confident in the products before encouraging people to overclock. If you have a board from another manufacturer then don't complain about MSI complain to Asus or Giga or whatever for not running competitions for you guys :)

MSI giving away free hardware and people complain! love it

It would be good if we were all limited to 4 threads though so that the i5's would have a chance but still you cant really complain. :p

The winner is going to be using extreme cooling, most likely expensive - which means someone in that position with access to that kind of setup isn't really going to need a 580.

Hence the two 560 in the prize draw... It a bonus not an entitlement, and not run by OCUK, if I had a MSI board I'd just enter it with what ever overclock i had for the free draw , 60 entry's? 1/30 chance winning - Good marking idea imo

Some people are to spoilt!

Hello

Some pretty nice results coming up so far so keep them coming!

As for comments on having to own an MSI product to win an MSI product being a little unfair, yes I can see where you are coming from with this however the competition although hosted here at ocuk is actually an MSI competition hence the need for the GD65.

Don't let this put you down though as other competitions may crop up in the future from other manufacturers or even none manufacturer specific.

Let's all see how this goes and keep the niggles and small moans out of this one as everyone will be able to enter such competitions as times progresses :)

Thanks

Is this open to everyone? no conditions like being an Ocuk forum member for X amount of days etc? Would be nice if there was a restriction tbh just to stop people coming here just for this. Say 60 day min membership which takes us to end of competition? 60 days is a long time for the competition to run, would have been better at 30 maximum I think. Away to get some results all the same though :)

Yeah, yeah, it very nice of MSI to give away stuff etc and I understand that OC are following the rules laid down to them. (perhaps I may have been a little over enthusiastic in my earlier post).
Just to be perfectly clear, I have no issue with OC at all, they have been very good and provide an excellent service and those at OC who I have spoken to come across as very helpful and professional.

The point is that some people who are not in a position to buy such cards, may wish to enter a competition to win such a prize. By excluding these people from the start is not very sporting.

Surely the point of any promotion is to gain custom, not to alienate the consumer. Besides what difference does it make to MSI if the winner is an MSI customer or not? Infact what better way to capture your competitors market than to give them intensives to buy from you.

The competition runs for 60 days so it encourages you to buy a board in the meantime. Personally I think it's a good marketing ploy, one where people have to own buy/own their own products to enter

Only the MSI board is seem unfair play ! Not fair !

Because MSI are going to give away hundreds of pounds worth of their hardware for somebody overclocking a competitors board??

A nice competition for somebody that has one of these set-ups, might make some people running them at stock take their first steps in to the overclocking game, which is never going to be a bad thing.

As for me... I'll just have to wait for AMD or Gigabyte to run a simular comp

Glad to see you edited that last bit out of your post, I subscribed to the thread and got the full un-edited post in my email. The ban hammer would have got you me thinks ;)

Sometimes I type faster than I think.
The last thing I want to do is to offend anyone.
However I do like to fire up a discussion now and then ;)

Anyone here saw this competition and thought, "hold on, great prize, I think I will buy an MSI board now"?

If it was open to all, then someone with another board is more likely to think, "I won a great card from MSI, fair play to them, I think I am going to buy more of their products now".

Put it this way, I have bought from "competitor A" on a loyal and regular basis. I see OC selling an item I am interested in and I think, why should I change supplier? OC may value additional customers and I am offered an intensive to buy from OC. I feel I get a great deal/good service and will repeat buy (which I do), and OC gain an extra customer.

Or another example, how many people have satellite TV or mobile phones?
Why do you think the deals offered to people who are not already customers are much better than those offered to existing customers?

It's called the hook. If you are already a customer and happy the chances are that you will stay a customer.

I think MSI has it backwards.

the idea of the competition is to encourage those who own the board already to have a play and see just how good it is, to encourage those people to talk about the board on the forum & maybe enourage a few extra people who are considering buying Sandybridge to choose MSI.

we already have & will continue to offer promotions to encourage people to purchase the our products, this competition is something for those who already did to participate in and maybe get some more hardware for free.

how is this different from the HWBot exclusive competitions run by competitors? I just wanted to give something back to a loyal customer.

Should I pull the competition and not bother doing anything with the OcUK forums in future because a couple of people who didn't choose MSI feel left out and fancy having a moan? would that really be fair?

Ok everyone. Some valid points made however now is the time to move on.

This is an MSI competition run by MSI. The rules stated are their own rules and to participate it is only fair that you follow them.

If you don't have the kit then that is just unfortunate however don't be put off by this as more competitions will come to light in the near future that will involve other manufacturers by them selves or as a group effort.

Any more complaints will result in the post removal and a 24hr sus as it is not fair on those who can enter nor is it fair on the moderating team, the staff of ocuk and for MSI to have to sit here and read all of the childish bickering and moaning.

This is the FIRST competition being hosted like this. It just so happens that it is MSI however more will follow so please dont ruin it for others as that really is not fair!

As pedantic as this may sound ocuk and the moderating team do not like having a moan, suspending members or deleting posts so please adhere to forum rules, competition rules and refrain from drifting away from what is deemed to be a correct forum eticate.

Now be nice! These are some pretty awesome prizes! Yes the tip prize will more than likely be won by a member with a 2600k and some good cooling however there are two prizes in a random draw that are also well worth entering for!

I'd certainly not grumble at the chance of getting an 560ti just for running a 5 minute bench :D

its nice to see companies like MSI doing this sort of thing...

If I had the right hardware I would take part myself never know.

I hope that more do happen in the future ( so I can take part in them if I got the right bits) I certinly wouldn't mind spending a day or so overclocking the nuts of my new pride and joy to get...well maybe a free upgrade if it was the the best score...certinly wouldn't mind getting one of the GTX560TIs ethoir

I also hope that not only MSI do this, so asus, gigabyte etc start doing it

this isnt a reason to buy MSI, its MSI trying to get you to show how good thier boards really are.

Nor me I would be overjoyed :D I probably won't win the top prize but any prize would be great. A credit to MSI for choosing OcUK to host this competition and I do hope other manufacturers do it to in the future, can only be a good thing for the OcUK community.

I personally found this competition useful in finding out how to overclock, before this the highest I went was 4.6ghz. But this competition made me do a lot of research to find out about all the different voltage settings etc which I probably would not have looked into otherwise.

And Don't leave us ScottiB you have been invaluable to MSI owners over the last couple of months with the Sandybridge issues etc and have been an asset to these forums.

Ok - Truce. *waves the white flag*

Was a bit of fun but I didn't expect to see it escalate this far.

I agree, time to move on. I hold no grudges against OC, MSI, any of the forum admins or anyone who argued against me.
