**OcUK Exclusive** MSI Extreme Overclocking Competition.

Hello,

I have decided to open the competition up to owners of the P67A-GD53, GD55and GD80 also. As they are all based on the same power phase design it's only fair :D

Andrew, would you please edit to OP to reflect this?

Is it not fairer to remove HT from the 2600k?
8 threads is going to beat 4 pretty easily..

Not fussed on the board choice, it's an MSI competition, I have the GD65 myself.

I understand your point of view, HT or not was the toughest decision to make but as the scores are being submitted to HWbot and since HW bot has separate ranking tables for each CPU model, I decided that it was best to give 2600K users the opportunity to post the best scores possible.

This was also the primary reason for the random prize draw, you do not need to have a 2600K to stand a chance of winning a prize.

But then you may's well make it a 2600k exclusive competition?
2500k owners will get creamed by a 2600k chip, even if they're running a lower clock, hardly seems fair when it's an OC'ing competition, not who has the most threads competition.

EDIT : Don't get me wrong, an excellent competition, can't wait to OC my 2500k.

HWBOT link
CPU-Z link

Just done one at stock (low volts) trying to get HWBot link up
Do i need a wPrime account aswell ???

EDIT: that was long winded -do you have to add all your system info manually :(
And HWbot doesn't accept PC3-10666 exists?

@ MooMoo - I'm a time traveler, or just maybe living in the past

But then you wouldn't have the opportunity to win an award winning N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II OC

Just a thought but would it not be a good idea to have a separate 'Competition Forum/Thread' where all the competitions can be found?

By doing this you would see more entries as the competitons will be easier to find, they wont get lost amongst the 'Today Only' and 'This Week Only' deals and also you mentioned in an earlier post that more competitons are on the way.:D

Your thoughts?

Tried getting 5ghz out of my cpu last night, set vcore to 1.38v and got half way through test (max temp 67c) and blue screened, couldn't boot, no power at all, just back from local pc shop and turns out I have killed my 2500k, big scorch mark on the back of it :( Is this a one off or did I push it too far? on a good note though my MSI gd65 board is still working :)

Hi,

Something is definitely not right there, if cooled sufficiently Sandy Bridge CPU's run fine at voltages well in excess of 1.4V, in fact one of my test rigs is running 24/7 at 5GHz with 1.42V at the moment and I've seen benchmarks run at over 1.6V (obviously some more hardcore cooling is needed for that)

I've never heard of "scorch" marks on a CPU unless it was fitted incorrectly. Are the marks on the pin side or the heatspreader? any chance of a pic?

sorry not sure why this did not attach to the post below, not so easy on an iPhone to post :(

I have the D14 cooler and temps were fine, the scorch mark was a line going through the center of the the cpu heatspreader maybe 8mm long and 3mm wide. The shop where I bought it from has it but have just emailed him to ask him to send a photo of it to me and I will post it. He thinks there was maybe a contaminant in between the cooler and heatspeader. Possible I suppose although I was really careful when putting on the TIM, funny though as I only put on the new TIM yesterday.

I have the same cooler and CPU and set 1.42 in the bios for 5ghz although it shows as 1.456v, my temp didn't go above 60c at that. Not sure about the burn mark but a contaminant (like a hair maybe? or lump of dirt? not dust)does sound more likely than faulty CPU and definitely not motherboard related.

the idea of the competition is to encourage those who own the board already to have a play and see just how good it is, to encourage those people to talk about the board on the forum & maybe enourage a few extra people who are considering buying Sandybridge to choose MSI.

We already have & will continue to offer promotions to encourage people to purchase the our products, this competition is something for those who already did to participate in and maybe get some more hardware for free.

How is this different from the HWBot exclusive competitions run by competitors? I just wanted to give something back to a loyal customer.

Should I pull the competition and not bother doing anything with the OcUK forums in future because a couple of people who didn't choose MSI feel left out and fancy having a moan? would that really be fair?

Chill out Scotti.

You're offer is genuine and I'm without doubt that the guys that own MSI products appreciate the opportunity. I think this comp is a great idea and I look forward to seeing just how fast they can tweak with these boards.

The old addage you can't please all the people all the time is what's appropriate here :)

I've taken the liberty to add some capital letters to your post as I presume you're out of stock, and I've attached your toys to the pram with elastic so they come back...

Right who's got the Liquid Nitrogen?? :D
