**OcUK Extreme Haswell bundle - A review!**

My bundle has to go back tomorrow to get some new RAM installed, but I couldn't help a little test using the Gigabyte z87x-oc as well, but the standard kingston RAM....

Without changing the default voltage of 1.306v (according to the BIOS readings), running the AIDA 64 stability test and an air cooler reaching around 65-68 degrees 4.8GHz was not a problem. 5GHz was a problem that would need more volts or tweaks elsewhere but there is room to play a lot of room :)

Hmm, upgrade to a 4930K or get one of these bundles for a couple of hundred more  Certainly very tempting. I don't suppose anyone knows if you can get them without the RAM? The only hitch is my existing H100 cooler supposedly not being good enough although I'd have thought if you stick the 4.6Ghz clock and don't do anything stupid you'd be OK (running stress tests for hours on end is not my idea of a good time! As long as it doesn't crash in game it's good enough for me)

Doubt it, I think they need to include/control the RAM to guarantee the OC.

That's a damn good chip you have there Pgi947;)

Mine will do 4.6 @1.264/caches x44 @ 1.240 all day, but not tried pushing for more yet.
May use your volts as a template to work off.

Can you tell me if you have stuff like Spread spectrum/ IGPU disabled, or if possible, post a screenshot of your bios?

Thanks

No problem, should be in the bios quite a lot the next few days sorting the memory. Fairly sure igpu is set to auto, which I'd presume is disabled on using a dedicated card.

Spread spectrum I'm not sure on, shall have a look though!

Need to get my head around uncore too, haven't changed it from 42 yet, though I think it works from core multi now, sure back in the day uncore was something to do with memory :p

Sorry to hear that nick:(
No chance of returning it for (perhaps) a better one?

not after he's delidded it, pretty sure everyone checks for that

yeah basically it's the motherboard bus speed. Ideally it should be about x2 behind the CPU ratio or the performance drop off is considerable...that's where a lot of people miss out (& was the cause of 8Pack's little tiff with Tom Logan).

Over 4GHz the benefit of increasing uncore further starts to diminish so we don't bother going over 42, this allows us to keep the ring voltage at a reasonable level and hence controlling the temperature a little better.

I'd love to see what you can really get with your bundle ;) have you ventured up to 1.4V yet?

yeah thanks, gutted :(

only way is to sell on, if a good clocker turns up on the MM i'd buy it, not prepared to take a chance. I did ask ocuk if they could sell me one out of the bundles but thats a no go, i was hoping they would just send me one out of a good will gesture just for spending nearly 7K with them in less than a year!!!! there are good but not that good!!! :D

That's an awful lot of cash to spend in a year:eek: Surprised they didn't give you a golden chip!

Hopefully a better clocker will pop up in the MM for you bud.

1.4v will be done later in the week once ive got the 2666mhz ram up and tightened, provided I can get the multi to scale with voltage, hopefully be looking at ~5.4-5ghz ddr2700 c11.

Haha I remember that, lurpack schooled him :D

not using regular TIM, its delidded lapped and using liquid pro under and on the IHS and its still poop
Really unlucky mate.

Similair dilema myself, mine is an extremely hot runner as well. At stock it's as high as some peoples at 4.5ghz under p95. Not sure now wether to delid it and hope for a drop that will enable me to safely run at 4.5ghz ono. Or buy another one, unfortunately as i found with the 3770k the good clockers rarely come up for sale. And i could loose again in the lottery by purchasing new.

I'm in exactly the same boat. Mine doesn't need much voltage up to 4.3GHz, but it does run hot. Even at 1.17v (4.3GHz) I can still get into the 80s running prime on a custom loop.
Also considering delidding, but not sure it's worth it if it might not help. I was originally running on an H60 and hoped the high temps were due to that. Otherwise might have returned it, too late now. Buying another is a big risk and would start getting expensive. Plus all I'd likely gain would be a few hundred MHz. Not sure it's really worth it, but it is annoying. Maybe in a while when it's a bit older and I'd be less worried about killing it I might try delidding.

Glad I'm not the only one with this issue. Well, not pleased you have the issue, but you know what I mean.

Buying a bundle like this would be the safest way around it, but annoying when you only need the CPU. Plus getting rid of a chip that's either a bad clocker or that runs hot might be tricky.

I could afford one of theese bundles, but basically id be shelling out just for the chip alone as i already have a decent motherboard, a k2 air cooler and ram that will clock pretty high.

My previous 3770k was a pretty poor clocker as well, sold it on members market but the guy who bought it wasnt interested in high overclocks. Made a bit of a loss on that chip though.

Nice chip you have there pgi947, I wonder what the batch number was... :D

I've got an L310B on it's way, not exactly sure wat the last numbers are, but from what I've been reading over the last few days over various forums, they generally are the ones that have more chance of being good clockers.

Should easily be able to sell it, a lot of people run the CPU's at stock. Maybe try again for a better batch?

@setter I would have stuck with your ivy tbh, till skylake arrives but nvm

surefire way is to sell current setup and go for the pre binned bundle, hits hit and miss on the retail cpu route

you might see better results if you can cool the cpu better, less voltage to remain stable ect
