OcUK Forums Changes

Do people still fall for that  ;) :p.

You'd be surprised :p The grey object is a padlock, it means the thread is locked for posting but you can still view it.

I'd like to see more Dons or the return of the Underbosses. Also the embarassed smiley looks more like it's singing.

I wouldn't change much otherwise.

Personally, I think these are some of the best forums on the internet. I think they're well moderated, there are a lot of intelligent members on here and it all makes for some very interesting, and intelligent discussion.

However, there are a number of things that I personally, would like to see resolved in the future. The first one would be to have tighter rules, firmer moderating, etc. These forums are extremely well moderated, a lot of people spend a lot of time to ensure that they're as pleasurable and enjoyable to read as possible. I really do appreciate that. But I think it's getting to the point where there simply aren't enough moderators to keep up with the amount of spam, and general nonsense, that's posted. I think the appointment of a new don (or two, or even three) would be a step in the right direction. I've seen a dramatic decrease in the amount of rubbish posted since Zefan was appointed. And that was one person in a relatively short amount of time. I'm sure this has been considered, but the possible reinstatement of a second tier in the mod team. Like the underbosses, or something similar.

I think that this should go hand in hand with a firmer set of rules, that people need to adhere to. More suspensions being handed out etc. I just remember how it was back when I first joined. That was only two years ago, and I remember there being a lot less mess around the forums. Maybe that was just me though.

Sorry if I haven't been that clear, but just a couple of suggestions from me. :)

How about a 18+ GD Forum ?
Mainly for the jokes, OcUK jokes (bar the few) just don't cut it, whereas there are loads of GREAT jokes that could go in 18+. :)

18+ would be hard to check. The only way I know if you registered a VISA card with the shop to confirm it was you.

How about we have some form of elections on the forum? We could have a separate forum to allow people to put their policies forward and then people can nominate people they want. Once the nominations are in a short-list of candidates for whatever the role is (minor Don? or perhaps underboss if it comes back? It could even just be to a committee that puts forward user suggestions to the current Mod staff, allowing a smooth user-mod team flow of information) The people who have been short listed can then 'campaign' and try and persuade people they are good for the role. Obviously at the end there is a big election to see who wins.... These elections could be every 6 months or every year.

I just think it would add a really good dimension to the forums.

That's not such a bad idea.
But shop accounts aren't linked to forum accounts. ?
Unless you confirmed via email.

Still a good idea.

However, if that didn't work .. couldn't you just have it on request only - where you have to accept to a T&C so that OcUK aren't to blame ?

I like it how it is, although perhaps sub forums such as the seperate forums for NvIdia and ATI, and the consoles.

Probably a controvertial one looking at some responses to past threas, but perhaps a fashion forum wouldnt go a miss, even if it doesnt have that many posts, I for one think it would be a good read.

MM needs sorting out I think, maybe with the confirming address and phone numbers etc...

I would like that thing where you hover over the thread title and it shows the first line of the first post in the thread, so you know what it's about.

So if the thread was called "Spec me a..." then you could hover over it for a second and see "sandwich" then you could get an extra few seconds thinking of a witty reply.
