OcUK Forums Changes

I feel thread closure outside of MM should be the moderaters domain.

Got to echo this... as a mod on another forum I can tell you people being able to close their own threads outside of MM would be a disaster! I support title changing though, it's nice ot be able to add updates etc without relying on a mod to change it for you. However this too can be abused.

I think tightening of MM is the only thing I can think of that i'd really like to see given the amount of grief lately. As for the "amnesty" on banned members... well though I have seen some REALLY awful banning decisions on this forum, when a ban is issued, no matter how wise it was or was not, it should be final. Once you start letting banned members back it will open the floodgates for more requests, and will spiral on from there. Deal with the decisions made and improve things for the future. :)

I would like to see a section where customers can raise legitimate concerns with regards to OcUK.

Now before people poo poo this idea I know that some people may abuse it but that happens anyway now and the threads are deleted.

What I am proposing a section where people can post in a constructive manner suggestions on how OcUK can "deliver" to its customers. All business have issues, some which they may not be aware of.

As it stands at the minute the forums are so sterile of anything that looks like criticism that to the less naive it may look like you have something to hide.

I think a little more transparency will actually help OcUK reputation.

We all know the forums are used as a marketing tool so any suggestion that the shop and the forum are not connected is not true

Mostly already posted - so a bit of a repost

A lo-fi version of the forums for pda's - with links to pics posted, no sigs etc

self mod (with limits) of threads that you create

Avatars for xmas (and all talk of christmas banned till dec 1st)

Laptop section

Lose the Mafia theme, whilst cool once upon a time, I think it says little for OC/UK & the forums tbh.

We should NOT be able to close threads, For example Broadband could have just closed the thread and end of fun, or any of the detecive threads or anything remotely funny at the OP's Expense will be lost.

we should have 2 more Avatars , 5,000 and 10,000 . I dont think there should be a womens Avatar as there a minority and im sick of these minoritys getting speical treatment.

Members Market should have a bit with your personal details in your trust.

Couple more Subforums ie, Laptop , PC Problems , Shop problems and a few in console.

Here's my take on things:

Sigs? I like 80 posts per page. Worst case scenario, 80 posts = 80 sigs, @ 20kb each = 1.6mb of sigs per page! So I say leave the rules as they are. It would be good if people could put their systems spec in their profile tho, I've seen it done on other VB based forums.

Av's? I'm not really bothered if there are any new ones, I quite like them as they are. Maybe have a different one for people that have been here since the nuke (or maybe just members who have been here for a while)?

Smileys? I wouldn't mind a :/ one. :D

Colour schemes? I use a FF addon to give a nice black background, but I guess it would be nice to have a few colour schemes if it doesn't cause any server issues.

Rules? I like them, they make this forum more readable (or should I say bearable) than many other forums out there. I'd quite like the option to PM people tho, but if they have trust info, I can always e-mail 'em.

Pics? I wouldn't mind 10 pics per post, plus make it so smileys dont count. Should make things easier for the people over at photography.

Categories? I vote for another section where people can post things they have made, be it videos, music, and get others opinions and feedback on their creations, a bit like what already happens over at photography. Maybe call it "members creations" or something like that?

MM? Keep it, but maybe update the sticky so people are a little more careful of people with less than 5 trust. Exchanging phone numbers of land lines and things like this should help prevent scammers.

A small change I would like to see, is when you click on the 'OcUK' sign in the top left, it should open it in a new tab automatically, instead of in the same window.

edit - It's already been done, good work! :D

CHANGE IT BACK!

You just middle click on the logo to open it in a new tab, now I have to right click -> open in new window to open it in a new window!

I like it as it is, but could you stop stocking 360's please :p

Heh I guess you'd agree with my suggestion then. The cynic in me thought that Ocuk only started stocking 360s so that they could ban talking about games shops in the games forums. Of course the sensible side of me realised how ridiculous that theory is. Although it did strike me as odd that 360s were initially being sold for greater than the RRP:confused: Last time I checked the prices were much more competitive though.
