OcUK Forums Changes

Stick with things how they are:

I read the forums everyday and have done for the past 5+ years but I don't have an uber post count. Avatars linked to length of joining would be good! Avatars linked to post counts could encourage spamming?!

What about a paid service which gives access to MM, you need to be a member for +3 Months and with at least 300 posts.

What about running competitions with prizes from the store?

All I can think of for now!

RE: "Points" to suspensions.

I suggest a three-way three-strikes rule..

3 points = suspension
3 suspensions = ban
3 bans = permaban.

Of course, I think I'm on two suspensions now unless it's a "clean slate" so to speak. :p

Oh yes and relax the competitor rules in gaming, just gaming ;)

Personally I'd like to be able to mention where I preorder my games from... but most game e-tailers do sell certain things that OcUK sell...

Bit of a fine line I suppose, game e-tailers aren't directly competing against OcUK... you don't see motherboards, CPU's and the latest graphics cards for sale, but you do see joysticks and mice.

So I doubt it would happen...

It is annoying when someone says 'I got Halo 9 on preorder for £3.50...'
and two pages of cryptology and guessing ensues as people try to bend the rules to guess where it is available.

That and if it's lax in one area, most people will forget its only lax in one forum and it would probably carry over onto the rest of the forum

Actually there is 1 thing I would really like changed! :)

I know PM's are not a good idea on thw whole, but I would like to see ex-Dons and ex-UBs get the PM facilty back. Would that be possible please?

The infraction feature sends a private message to the recipient so email's wouldn't be needed:)

But PM's are turned off aren't they?
We wouldn't be able to read them if we got sent one....

That and I don't check the email account that this is set up with anyway :o

I use a gmail one, which gets you banned/suspended if you change to a web based one.

On the subject of that, could I use my work email address?

It's a company email, so I presume thats fine? :)

All the best,

It certainly works then, just read and checked the PM from it :)

I think everyone with a username of 3 letters should be able to do something really cool and exciting.

Come on, share the power :(

can i suggest;

have long standing members be the same as those over 5000+ posts, (say more then 2 years) get the special avatar/poll rights, even if they dont post 5000+, after all quality over quantity ;)

having 'thanks' enabled if people want to say how useful/good a post is

a name and shame section, so people know why others are suspended/banned

there are also a lot of adult themed threads or those that steer close to being adult, if they continue, can i suggest some validation process on age for users, and only 18+ allowed there, or tighter control over some of the more tastless threads..

re competitors, its a hard one, because your right in not wanting to use this forum to afdvertise other places, but a more relaxed approach would be appreciated, e.g. linking to stuff you dont sell, asking questions, comparing goods etc. apprecaite if you dont take this one on though ;)

A little relaxation of the no competitors rule would be nice. Having to mention "the purple shirt brigade" or "a certain high street retailer" just seems a bit... silly.

It's not like anyone here would voluntarily shop there except in a dire emergency.

New avatars based on length of membership too, not just post count.

It'd be good to have some kind of link under our avatars where we can list out PC specs.

Would make helping people out a bit easier.

True.
PC Specifications
Xbox Live details - which links to a scoreboard/xbox Live user list (note: not that big score box from the Xbox.com forums).

Those are just 2 things which would go down well.

Nah as some people registered ages ago but have only a few posts and really haven't contributed at all.

having 'thanks' enabled if people want to say how useful/good a post is
Nice idea.

OK, these are my thoughts right now.

1 - A special avatar or two for those with 5,000 and 10,000 posts.
2 - Bring back Underbosses.
3 - A few more Dons.
4 - More transparent moderating.5 - Use built-in infraction facility.
6 - Actively encourage meets and maybe even contribute to beer bill/other costs.
7 - Increasing signature size to 25KB.
8 - Letting some users start polls (maybe 5K+ posters).
9 - Inviting certain banned members back who haven't burnt their bridges.

There are others but that was a quick 5 minute think.

Sounds pretty good to me, the only problem is they might all be popular but we can only vote for one... and lets be honest the one with beer will get 90% of the votes.

Edit: Ah, separate thread for each it seems... never mind then :p

well i'm thinking selfish here, i've been on these forums ages, and although i may not be well known, i do know my way around :)

still i'm nowhere near 5000+, so think its a tad unfair of you have been here as an active member for so long and not have that recognised.

it could be recognised with the thanks as opposed to posts, which would be more equal (but still be dependent on volume of posts) as that would remove the spam mails and "spec me some shoelaces" threads :D

Like I said on a previous page of this thread, I think the criteria for the "special" avatars should go on not just post count but length of membership too.

I agree that some people will have registered ages ago and never contributed, but I guess it's kind of obvious the older members who have been actively involved in the forums.

Whether this would make more work for Dons having to approve a member to have a special avatar I don't know. Not sure if you could set the criteria and let the forum software do it automatically.

Oh, BRAIN WAVE!!!!

How about, a voice comms server that some of us chip into??

i.e. ventrillo, ts...

Would be good, could have some right laughs on there, could have rooms for certain topics, people who are watching sports while at there computers can talk about the game while its happening, people can just ranomly talk in other subjects and you can even have your own section for you and your mods..

let us know what you think of this, they are cheep enough.

Give me your responses to this people!!!!!

Spie?!?! where are yooooh??

check this one out and let me know what you think.
