OcUK Forums Changes

I think the forums are great. I really like it here.

I know as the forum begins to grow more sections are needed but I think its important for OcUK to keeps its roots as a computer forum otherwise it will become a general one. I would like to see the programming/html/graphics section split up. How about implementing a better system then 'trust' in the MM, like having the status viewable near the status screen?

The only problems I can see with this one are that Spie might not want a TS/Vent server being associated with OcUK as a company. After all it would be almost impossible to monitor and moderate what is said on there.

Which leads me onto the next problem, competitors. Pretty much the same as PMs you can't stop it if you can't see/hear it.
 
Well, we would have to put a disclaimer on there stating that anything said or heard is not to be held against ocuk as a compny or anyone involved in ocuk, totally moderated forum to stop abusive message floating, aslong as proof is there etc, a lot of rules could be written up, and it dosnt take much to ban someone who has 60 complaints of abusive language with proof etc.

You can't really moderate a voice server though, once it's been said it's gone.

It's not like a forum where there is a hard copy of what has happened.
 
there are logs recorded on the server that host, and you can even get bots that record and ban you if you use profanity... google it, when i played css, bf, cs, quake, things like that in clans i used to come across some right stuff.

Me and my mates used to record vent loads (built in feature I think), I wonder if it'd be possible/feasible to do it 24/7.
 
Yeah, it wont take much room, gb wise, and it can be modded every day so it can be deleted...

It isnt expensive to have one either, we would need like a 100 man server, if not bigger, i reocn maybe bigger, as we have 600 on nightly and have 10's of 1000's of members.

If people want to, and ocuk dont, we can always get this done privately, but would be good if it was run by ocuk.. allow over 18's on or something, or have certain rooms, rooms can be passworded, and if passwords are handed out accidently like me giving it to someone younger, bans should be placed.
 
How does it work? Surely you cant have hunders of people all talking at the same time trying to have conversations?

Ah right! Seems you know a bit more about it than I do :p

I guess if that could get implemented then it might actually turn out to be a decent idea.

Yeah, I know you can do it but like you say whether it would be feasible is another thing. Would probably be down to the person recording having enough disk space to save it all.

Then having to spend the time sifting through it all to see if anyone broke a rule.

It just seems like a lot of work to me.

That would be a good way of doing it, as well as maybe paying for the privilege of a PM'ing ability, 2 of my idea's with one stone like.

Perhaps a mod could set a poll up..

If you're in favour of the new features/rules then it's a "yes" and if you're against it'd be a "no" ??

I like the idea of contributions made to the meets.. It would encourage a lot more people!

There is no point, just do it in GD but have the decency not to swear, what's the problem :confused:
 
Well, there is software that breaks off after a certain amount of time, and then rerecords, which would be perfect, set like 4 x 6 hours, but we wouldnt need to listen, we save backusp for a few days, so if any issues arrise our members would act as mods and post on the forum where a mod will then have a listen to the recordings and take appropriate action.

as for 100 people talking, you split them into different rooms, and you can have limits on rooms i.e. 20 person max.

Theres lots of things you can do to vent, ite very easy to use, have a download and a play yourself, if ocuk were willing, you are able to set up your own vent server, with the relevant skills to set up it would be possible, you then add a few 500gb disks into the system and there yah go, few tb's of storage which would take like 2 weeks to save. especially after compression...

think about it, its a good idea, people could donate money, if we have more one month, we can save it for the next, if it starts to get over whealming, we can put it to better use, i.e. game servers, upgrade the vent servers, computer.

even save it for anual meetings ;) if that ever gets set up :P

Well, some people, not necessarily me like to swear to get there points across, but cursing and profanity might cause arguments and abusive messages which isnt why we are here.

Sig sizes to be relaxed in rules say a max of 500 width by 150-200 height and up to 50-100kb in size like most other forums do. Also more relaxed rules about wording in sigs if a signature image is used as well. 2 lines perhaps up to where the end of the new 500 width of the image sigs.

Competitor rules relaxed would be nice, since i believe in free speech etc and healthy competition shouldnt be stamped on as much. In the end of the day ppl will go with whoever they want, it wont effect ** business that much if at all. So if ppl say a competitior it shouldnt be stamped upon. I relise its a company forum well to a degree, since mainly the link to the company is the ppl that work at ocuk just post now and again some deals they have on, but thats about it.

Oh and it would be nice if it was possible to relax on the rules about avatars, let ppl use their own instead of the godfather stuff as not everyone is into black and white avatars of gangsters. Can have rules on them tho like size and filesize.

Well them are just the suggestions i have been wanting to ask for a long time just never knew where to ask and when i saw on the top of this topic you were looking for discussions about rules being relaxed i thought id take the oppertunity to voice my opinions.

Look forward to seeing what happens in the end as its been a long time coming i think for a change in some aspects.

Edit - I would like the word filter to be relaxed as in to use "u r" (without brackets and space) as i use that a lot. As i do that a lot as its a quick way to say "your" etc.

I'm all for signature rules relaxing a bit but if they were changed the that degree the forum would look awful.
 
How about letting us use our own avatars along with yours, i.e. put ours at the bottom of the contact box on the side, under the posts etc..

That would make posts needlessly long imo. Look how big the box is already, for your previous post...
