OcUK Forums Changes

How about a THANKS system to encourage others to help others rather then reply with a sarcastic comment. They have it on AV Forums and it's pretty good. Shows under your post count how many times you have thanked people and how many thanks you have received.

That sounds like a decent idea, but if it works like a respect system - then I imagine a fair few users on here would get instant bad respect from many people... without naming names, there are a few members on here that have rubbed a lot of people the wrong way with posting style and random threads.

The list Spie made seems pretty solid tbh :)

OK, these are my thoughts right now.

1 - A special avatar or two for those with 5,000 and 10,000 posts.
2 - Bring back Underbosses.
3 - A few more Dons.
4 - More transparent moderating.
5 - Use built-in infraction facility.
6 - Actively encourage meets and maybe even contribute to beer bill/other costs.
7 - Increasing signature size to 25KB.
8 - Letting some users start polls (maybe 5K+ posters).
9 - Inviting certain banned members back who haven't burnt their bridges.

There are others but that was a quick 5 minute think.

Definitely some great points there. How many of these (or any changes) are you thinking of implementing?.

Not sure if this has been posted before but a new colour scheme wouldn't go amiss, perhaps just a grey version, or a couple of blander colours?

Having PMs enabled would make it almost impossible to effectively mod the forum.
All talk of competitors and their current prices etc would just get PM'ed and so would personal attacks and stuff.
If it's all hidden it can't be acted on, some of it no doubt goes on via emails but there's nothing can be done about that:)

we live in a democracy , whats wrong with you? aren't people allowed to hunt a better bargain were ever it may be? so what if its with a competitor. Are you saying you would spend more on a product just out of allegiance for ocuk? and you talking about how pm's cant be moderated, i haven't laughed so much for hours, the point of a pm is its like , personal, only involving you and some other , not the whole population of the forums.

hahah

Only points i'm not sure about are 7) and 9).

I don't think sigs need to be changed unless the sizes do. It's not hard to fit 400x75 into 20k.

And as for letting some members back - well, this is a tricky area. How would it be "decided" for example? And moderated?

This forum is run by the owner of Overclockers, why should he pay to advertise competitors

There's no need for PM's, if people want to be contacted privately they will put their details in their profiles.

Spie, what do you think of splitting the forums up further as mentioned above, like having an Xbox and PS3 subsection under Console gaming for example?

That would be pants :p. I spend enough time sorting out quarrels and fanboy witch hunts as it is!

no you miss my point, im talking about product recommendations in a pm not in public, and thats what the OP was talking about too :)

i couldn't care less if pm's were enabled , but the quoted poster does

Eh, do you understand what I posted?

If we could have this as an avatar I would love you long time.

In which case it was terribly made as your whole post is about where to get a product at a better price.

It wasn't terribly made , just terribly read. if you understood why i quoted the OP and its not hard to do as his post was based on nothing but pm's, then you would see that my reply to his post was also directly related to the theme which was pm's and the talk of competitors within a pm.

That's a fantastic list imo. I especially like the idea of special avatars but maybe it would be a better to base the award of these on more than just the number of posts. For example, there are people who have been around for a long time but don't really post (spam? :p) that much.

I mean I post but only maybe 2-3 a day, but I read a lot and have been on the forums for a long time now. Maybe the criteria for the avatars could be based around not only a certain amount of posts but an amount of time the person has been actively involved on the forums.

While on the subject of rules I guess I could throw this in here, is there any chance I could have my access to MM back? I was banned from it a few years ago due to not understanding the rules on selling Half-Life 2 or something like that. I never had a bad trade or anything, had quite a few positive comments in my trust in fact.

I'm not saying I'm desperate to use it as such, but I'm a good honest guy that made a few mistakes in there when I was younger. Anyway, I just wondered if it would be possible for me to be allowed to use it again?

Thanks :)

Email a MM Don and they'll have a look at it:)

Another vote for more transparent moderating and additional avatars.

I would personally like to see a new sub forum created for the discussion of HTPC (Home Theatre PC) as topics about this spring up all over the place currently and it would be great to have a dedicated area for discussion and to share knowledge.

That sounds awsome, making me excited to see, and ive never been involved in the meets and im sure i would love to be... theres a few places in bradford that could easily be set up upon one little phone call and these places arent expensive, we have 2 train stations and a bus station all within walking distance of eath other.

Why not set up a lan event, games, beer, party, comps n laptops etc... would be awsome, local takeaways would make a killing and you would easily put multiplay up for its money due to the fact u have round about the same amount of members as they have, could be fun.

Let us know what else you got in mind, tell me what you think about my suggestions, ive had a few.
