OcUK GUIDE TO ORDERING YOUR AMD 9070 GRAPHICS CARD TODAY AT 14:00

EVGA the 2nd!

Hardly - MSI still make GPUs :)

But yes, there was a piece on HUB's podcast about the MSI-AMD relationship. It seems to have deteriorated, they make fewer AM5 boards than they did AM4, and their Claw handhelds use Intel APUs in a world where nearly every other handheld uses AMD.

Ye odd times. If they're financially struggling they're not going to start bothering to make graphics cards with tiny margins.

It does make sense to ditch the AMD cards for Nvidia because they probably sell 9:1 (for now). They might be regretting that now!

But I doubt MSI are hard up - they make literally everything apart from CPUs and RAM I think!

The margins on NVIDIA are even worse. The GN video this week showed why EVGA walked. The initial batches with a non OC variance when they did them they wouldn't get more than $4 US dollars profit. NVIDIA throw board partners under a bus expecting them to pay their ransom for silicone and memory packages and then expecting them to make a profit out of it but this time it's happened with the AMD board partners as well.

They squeeze AIBs to ensure their profits remain high ( yet, never high enough).

Recent Nvidia's operating profit margin ( that's the amount left AFTER deduction of all costs but pre Tax) on GPUs is reportedly over 35%, I guess, AMD doesn't want be worse.

As far as I'm aware Nvidia won't work for less than a 60% margin.

Yeah I was aware of the Nvidia thing. I don't know what to think regarding MSI and AMD - to be fair I'm not that fussed as MSI had started phoning it in for AMD anyway.

It does seem like AMD are trying to keep AIBs onside, I reckon that's why there's no MBA.

the 35%+ is an official data and includes the GPUs only. This is number after all deductions (materials, designs, manufacturing, logistics etc) and it's a very high number actually because this the plain cash that is left

I wouldn't be surprised if their $800 GPU, cost them less than $200 to manufacture at TSMC. They bundle it with the memory and slap AIBs with $600 invoice, who then also need design, manufacturing, materials, transport, packaging ,promotion, warranty budgets etc. and are being left with very little room to maneuver.

Obviously, the AI stuff & networking is far more profitable. The H100 for example has reportedly 1000% mark-up.

A tip for those who is switching from Nvidia to AMD, please use DDU to uninstall nvidia driver thoroughly. I had black screen / flickering issue when switching between a running game and a video playing browser. Not sure if that's from nvidia residue but it's gone after DDU.
