They didn't for the GTX 980 or 980 ti. They made one for the 970 FTW (however it shared a PCB with other EVGA ACX cards), but not the 970 FTW+.
I wouldn't bet on it happening for the 1080.

Nvidia said $599...so it should be around just under £500 after adding VAT. But the average pricing of custom card being priced at around £550-£650, that is still a long way off, even if considering price gouging.

They did make a valid argument, why would AIB sell their cards lower than the reference card if their cards were better in every way. It was a genuine worry for some people on this thread.
Now people "only" have to pay £525 for the mid range card
It just shows what a BS move the founders edition is from Nvidia. Just to make the other cards look like good bargains.

When the NVIDIA engineer did a lengthy demo/interview on a stream he said they had priced the FE high so it could be undercut. NVIDIA from the outset said the cards would start at $599 (the cheapest 1080 works out not much more with a bit of UK hike). Why are you complaining that NVIDIA were telling the truth?
Nobody has been forced to buy an FE card and it wasn't like NVIDIA were making the custom versions stay hidden for long.

LEDs on backplate is cheesy. Was looking at the strix aura. Glad I went with EVGA FTW
they breath but dont "dance" the music
