They step down to 12v using this, which also has the IR receiver for the remote. The main white box on that image is only slightly bigger than a 50pence coin.
Ive got 20 of these and they are what use in my cases and have been for over 4 years now and they are brilliant peace of kit. The range on the remote is approx 10 meters. btw they are still running strong after 4 years.

Had some of these in the Home Cinema for a while now. Really adds a nice effect to the room.

No that's fine. I love them leds. and i mean I LOVE THEM ... 
I wired mine direct up to a 12 Molnex to the pc and they work perfectly.
this is the same leds in PC again shows what it looks like in a pc.
Btw the way the vids says mayhems RGB Leds there not there the ones above just me getting mayhems name thrown in the vid a lot pmsl.

These are so much more versitile, for example having a hot tub and putting them in the water! Can you do that with a living colour light?
I plan to install these strips under my pool table in my front room! The Philips light cannot do that!

I love the idea of putting it under the cabinets in the kitchen. This could work nicely in mine, so I may have to purchase these myself. Shall post pictures here.
