OcUK Minecraft Server - Rules & Chat

hmm the idea of a clean map with our projects moved over does sound appealing to be honest.

Looking at some of the current projects on the carto i believe mine is one of the biggest ones there. Will you be able to move it over?
If so i might ask for help in making a small change to the build :D

Any way i am not that long on the server and it would really be up to the long time players to decide as it is mainly their work that is involved in this.

Can you post a cropped carto screenshot of your project?

I don't imagine it'll be a problem to move - do you have any idea of the dimensions in terms of blocks?

An alternative idea: Reduce the size of the existing world and move anything important that falls into the removed area into unused areas in the central area that is being kept??

most of the inner world is pre 1.3 so cutting the map down would mean los of most new materials.

Now that is a very good point, yeah the advantages definitely outweigh the negatives!!

As long as Joachimville gets moved and I get time to rip up all my track and other stuff I'm all for it.

And landscaping the interface wouldn't be too bad, presuming we can chunk align when we copy areas over to avoid having void gaps between copied land and generated land (a problem I encountered when combining build from multiple worlds into one with mcedit).

umm hard to give block size as it kept getting bigger and bigger
it was suppose to be 200 x 200 but now i think i am at over 500 x 500

Mega Build located here

This link is the gallery i have for the build as it has been getting done.
it is the single largest building in the image. it is beside yazyaz1 and mr Mur's place
also the carto for this one is not the current state of the build

What would be cool is if there was an option to instead of having our structures transfered over we could choose to have the materials refunded on the new map. For example I love my structure and want to continue building it, but if I could do it over I would change a few things, but the problem being its too big to compleatly revamp as is but if I could get all the materials back and start from scratch that would be a much better option.

Although I would assume that trying to calculate what materials I've used and getting them back to me on a new map would be more time consuming then just spawning my structure on the new map.

Using Mcedit it would be very simple to copy and paste from one map to the other, as you say calculating materials used on a build would be trickier....

Regarding materials, the idea was to utilise a chest storage area like the current spawn. Give everyone sufficient notice (ie days) to gather up any belongings either from other chests or materials stripped from their current builds and store them in this chest area, this chest area would be transferred to the new map. This way everyone gets to keep the materials they have built up over the months. Refunding build materials would be a non starter, far too complex and time consuming.

I'm not bothered about my builds as they aren't great anyway and anything that helps the server can only be a good thing imo.

Only 2 things concern me and they are location and mats that I have collected. A refund could be a good idea as getting all the mats for parts of the build (for example red flowers for red wool).

Intact I would be more than happy to have just my chests moved and maybe an admin /give me a load of stone so I can re build again.

Lastly I think its owed a thanks to you guys for asking us first especially considering you give us this for free. If its gonna help on space etc then go for it.

Lordie, good luck finding where PR and I have moved to because I haven't a sodding clue where it is! All I know is it took me about 2hrs of wandering around outside the main towns before I found a nice empty zone. I did pass Zuumi's wheely structure on the way there though!

Cheers for adding the guys from my server Sylvet. There may be 1-2 more possibly registering soon.

Nothing decided yet and if we do go for a new map it won't happen today, or likely even tomorrow :)

In regards to building materials refunds.... I'd be tempted to do something like this for people if they were happy with a 'rough' refund. It really depends on whether or not the process of doing this would be quicker for the admin team than copying buildings. Obviously some people will want buildings copied instead of a refund due to all the work they've put into it...

Another random idea I had just now....

One corner of the world map is basically marked as 'unstable land' and once per (e.g.) month the chunks in that area are reset. This would basically mean you would have new materials every month and wouldn't have to go crazy trying to find new areas for mats. The reset chunks would actually be completely newly generated each time so you'd have a whole new area to explore with different materials/landscape/etc. What do people think?

that would be quite intesting actually.
