Does the server you are running on have rsync installed? I run our guilds minecraft server and we generate three maps. A low detail live map, a medium detail map (pigmap which is run locally on the server) updated every 15 mins and a high detail map (Tectonicus) updated every two hours.

To generate the high detail I rsync the world directory to my home server (it only copies the chunks that have changed and compresses the transfer) generate the image tiles then rysnc them back to the server.

If you want a hand setting any of this up give me a shout.

ahh. photoshop wont let me save it as a png, must be too big for some reason. all i've got available is .TIFF (146mb) or .psb (300mb). i can still try to upload the .tiff if you want? not much of a saving though. photoshop was using 37gb for scratch files

EDIT: I can't even open the carto after downloading. This is ridiculous.
