For the actual platform the portal stands on I thought making it the same dimensions as the auto generated portal floor on the other side might be an idea. Kinda stuck at the moment until we work out the detailing.

I was raising the floor because other wise the portal "stand" looked far too high and required too many steps (the corridor /stair will be raised a block too) the channel around the portal pedestal is as deep as it can go, (bed rock protrudes into it in some places) so it needed to be that high for the channel to look right depth (~ 3 blocks)


I made the portal pedestal out of even circles (because portal is even and would ahve to be offset) so it matches the corridor door but is actually slightly out of line with the roof but you can't tell. (also why i wanted less steps so they don't go near the outer walls were you'd notice).


thinking the portal could be set in where the 4 torches are on the pedestal but as it's even you're right we could set in a platform of obsidian that matches the size of the one in the nether. (i made about 26 blocks of obsidian and put it in the chests)

also we need to decide on the size of the occulus in the ceiling..

from the plan above, the city blocks so far...

Edit, just noticed it looks like the white lines are all different sizes, they are not, theyre all exactly the same, the city is perfectly symmetrical except for the first two plots on the right, they are 17 x 12 not 16 x 12 like the rest.

the lines seem far too wide to me. here's a pic of springfield on the ocuk server if it helps at all.

Also there is a general minecraft thread as well, if you arent playing on the ocuk server then your build might be better of in there :)
 
well 99.9% was done by me!

freddie takes some credit for supplying torches/sand and some ladders

I spent all night making that and fred slid off and left me! :(


Im still hunting for squid to make black wool to finish him off
