OcUK Minecraft Server - Rules & Chat

no i mean that the coords in outworld are different to nether aren't they? i tested earlier and they were completly different values.

sylvet just showed me round the city mate and it is epic!!!

What i did to connect all the places up was: make a note of both coords in nether once entered the portals. Just dig to align them.

Nice one, beat me to it lol. I have no idea where me and a friend have set base atm given that we started yesterday. I think it's near Zuumi's place somewhere!

Cheers Sylvet.

That does underline the hugeness of the world map and the large amounts of unused space.

Random idea: How would people feel if we restarted the map BUT copied across important projects that people were working on? This way we'd mostly have a clean slate but obviously people's important/current projects would be preserved. We'd also copy across the main area of newspawn to preserve chests/etc.

Just an idea atm. Discuss :p

Its an idea certainly, however its hard to combine sections from
multiple worlds and it look good. The interface between what you copy in and what is generated usually looks awful, also how do we determine whats important/current?

The process of copying + pasting from the different worlds would be an annoying manual one, yeah (done by the admin team). However, copying in someone's project is actually fairly easy. I've tested it myself with a 150x150x20 block area and it worked fine.

Interfaces can be blended in though with a bit of creative landscaping, it's certainly not a game breaker.

As to how to decide what's important/current? Ask the player populace.

So would some sort of borderguard be implemented to prevent players from overexploring? That might create problems with the nether as portals beyond a certain range would presumably not work, unless the guarding constrains the nether by an appropriate amount.

Also if people were given time to collect any resources from areas that were not getting copied across I wouldn't mind.

Still think it would be logistically complicated though!!

I reckon it would be a good idea. It also means we (meaning you as I don't play this game :p) can set a limit on how big the map can get.

This'll help save server resources (we do run other games on there too you know guys :)) and making the MC server more stable in the process.

i'd quite possibly stab you in the eyes, but the problem is i had to move miles away because despite my plan for the last place being posted up since before the server was even live it got built though and it was a case of move or destroy a bunch of peoples stuff..

Also unoccupied space isn't loaded so it's only an issue for the carto :p

Yeah. I'd have to make sure that the borderguard would work okay with the different 'worlds' (e.g. nether). That's something I can check into. In the worst case scenario I can probably make a copy of the borderguard plugin and then hard-code the netherworld as the world it effects..then make use of both the original plugin and the copied one.

In regards to the complexity issue, I agree. However, it would make things so much easier in other ways - server would be more stable and lag less, carto maps could be autogenerated without the admins (mostly sylvet) having to spend literally hours dealing with our massively oversized map, etc.

Yeah. It's a win-win really :)

I think sylvet was going to look into how to get your place moved across as a priority as he knew it'd be a deal-breaker for you :)

heh thing is it's months long project that requires huge areas, which means inevitable people will dig into it/build into it because it's impossible to mark he area out. (especially as plans are ever changing and poorly thought out :o)

I've started a topic in the admin group about it if you want to discuss things more candidly :)

Using worldedit tools we could possibly work out a way around the problems you're mentioning though. We'd obviously test out things and make sure they actually work before doing anything crazy anyhow.
