OcUK Minecraft Server - Rules & Chat

Not that I am particularly fussed myself but could the existing map be made available to download in order to load up in single player, such that you've got it to refer to for your builds if you want to recreate them block for block in the new map in the MP game. Would this even be possible? I'm up for a restart anyway as I get most enjoyment just by exploring caves rather than building massive structures, although I do like to see what other people build.

The existing map can be made available at some point yeah, though not everything will work 'as is' without you installing the required bukkit plugins/etc on a home server.

Have not been playing recently so not worried about my buildings, cant answer for Andy or Taz but dont think Taz has been around either.

I maybe online in the next few nights to let my 5 year old boy play on my structures which he has been desperate to do for the past few months, as its going does not matter so much now.

As this is mainly due to people who have spread out too much, couldn't we just 'trim the map down' leaving the map at a suitable size and use borderguard to ensure it doesn't get bigger?

Good call with making the existing map available though! Because if I lose my work I probably won't be back on the server again, so I can load the old map on my own server and play with a few friends!

What work are you concerned about losing? There are several community projects that we've already identified as needing to come over and, as discussed above, we will be allowing people to bring over some of their personal projects (within reason - will be posting up more details soon).

/re "trimming" - it wouldn't work reliably and we would have to somehow modify chunks that were far out to bring them closer to spawn. This would mean manually editing the contents of the chunk file - potential for corruption would be extremely high.

You probably missed my post or I missed your response! Basically by the spawn I have a castle on the hill which is joined by a tunnel to my house by the spawn. Although it's not a major project I have put a lot of time and effort into it and a few people have helped me. I would like to see the entire new spawn area to come over if possible. As I mentioned in my previous post, it is a massive amount of work for you as I have worked with map editors and they are very tricky, especially when moving complicated structures. So it would probably make a lot of people happy with minimal effort if you moved over the spawn area as it would be one big chunk to C+P rather than individual buildings. Especially for ToString who must have spent an outrageous amount of time getting the clay for his bricks! If you do this, could you try and include the tunnel between the house and castle as well as the lower floors of the castle. Really appreciate your work!

This is the basic outline of my buildings:

This is the area that I think should definitely be kept around spawn:

This is the area that should probably be kept around spawn and would be easier for you to do as it can all be done in one go:

I'd like my Giant Death Robot and my massive water dome maze moved over. I'm not too bothered about the Church of Satan.

When are you thinking of doing this?

MCEDIT is able to delete chunks happily. I've saved a few corrupted maps like that - the corruption was caused by running out of disk space on more than one occasion, I've since moved it to a much more roomy server :)

That's quite a huge area. I'm not sure we'll be able to move the larger area you posted - the other one might be doable.. Any idea of the coords/amount of blocks in each dimension?

I measured the area I outlined in post 5675 and it comes to 300x270x128 in size, which is 10,368,000 blocks total. How big is too big to move over?

To take the nucleus of the spawn area and my castle over we would the co ordinates would be, when squared off:

1) x= -569
z= -301
2) x= -569
z= -428
3) x= -290
y= -301
4) x= -290
y= -428

Unfortunately my castle has to be moved with my house otherwise the tunnel breaks. However, Nightstalk3r's castle sticks out quite a bit and could be moved separately. If we did this, the x coordinate for 1 and to could be changed to -494.

So, with the castle, the area to move would be 279x127x128 which actually isn't too bad for moving pretty much the entire spawn. It would save a lot of buildings in one go. It does neglect a few buildings at the outskirts of the spawn which could be added to this area without adding a massive amount to the area. If we moved Nightstalk3er's castle separately the area would be 204x127x128. Should be OK as I'm sure I have moved more on my PC in the past!

This, I can see this removing most of our problems and will not punish those who have built close in rather than exploring for hours to build a house.
