OcUK Photo Comp - Season Five : Round Five - "Emotion" DISCUSSION

Can I just ask why people are putting 'awe, happy, sad, tired' as image titles? Surely the image istself should say what the emotion is? Without having to put a title? It kind of defeats the point if you need to explain the emotion.

Just thought I would mention it.

King.

(Unless you have to title it as per rules, first one I have entered so I could be wrong.)

From what I remember the judges won't even see the thread, just the pictures. So any text in your entry, aside from the exif, might get lost.

Every photo deserves a title IMO. :)

That's partly true. The lead judge (Raymond) will take the photos that are their at Midnight on the closing date. He then zips them up and hosts them somewhere for his fellow judges to judge from. Sometimes they check back to the original thread to see if people declared invalid EXIF's and stuff, but generally they just go by the pics. Having said that, there is nothing to stop judges looking in the threads if they so desire!

Photo titles are ignored by judges as much as possible. A photo should say the theme without the need for a title IMHO. :)

I only put a title on mine as its only the second comp I have entered, I agree

that it doesnt need a title and its down to personal opinion and interpretation

:o thanks, there may be another though lmao, we're just about to set off for london where a wedding afterparty is going to last throughout the day o_0

Made it back in one piece!

I do have quite a few emotion style shots but I think theya re more family orientated emotion shots though, they'd probably work for the theme but as a whole the one up there now works better I feel :)

Arrrgghhh!! Tried to get my shot done this weekend but no cigar, my model was very uncooperative ;) Only a week to go and if this doesn't work I have no backup plan /panic

Strange round this one, to my eyes less than half are on topic

Actually it depends on what the judges views on emotion are, a subtle but important difference.

I see what you guys mean about some of the pivs not showing emotion but then again you could also use the the theme to try and create an emotion in the viewer or use the photo to try and communicate emotion rather than show it.

Ive tried to do this with my photo and make people feel a sense of emotion by standing on a cliff edge but also I felt someone with vertigo or someone scrared by heights would feel the strong emotion of fear.

I guess its all down to personal perception.

posted my entry. not sure if it captures my own emotion (3rd person) and others.

I was thinking someone's gonna get hurt trying to touch the horse. (apperantly it brings you goodluck to touch race horses sweat in mongolia).
