OcUK Photo Comp - Season Five : Round Two - "Religion" Discussion

i had a stab at water into wine but it ended up looking like water into ribena, which was disappointing. Need some serious rigs to keep everything in exactly the right place to get a convincing merge.

Again subjectivity is going to play a role in this, football to some people is just that, football, if 2 of the 3 judges think its just a game, then you lose big points. Also, there aint ANY mosques or druid temples near me, so that leaves Churches, or crosses, and in light of the fact my water/wine didnt work and i dont have fish/bread or 5000 people, nailing my stickman to cross seemed like a good idea at the time. I dont expect to win, so some points will do for me. :)

Crumbs, just realised I still haven't gone out to do anything for this competition! I need to get out there! If only I had more spare time. Hopefully I can fit something in between working, going to University, doing my Uni exams next week and completing the doing up of my bedroom!

I think Football is just a game. I think people can love it "religiously", but it can never be a religion. "Religiously" is just a phrase to express how much someone likes something. I could be wrong though! Maybe if people started to worship David Beckham as a god or something...

I haven't found any interesting mosques or druid temples yet either. I am a bit surprised, given I am living in the worlds most multicultural city! I guess I am just looking in the wrong places.

My entry posted.
Converted on my wife’s laptop, I hope it looks ok... may replace it later. Hope size is ok.

Nice photos guys :)

Some inspiration from Babylon 5 to keep us going through this tough theme:-

G'Kar: If I take a lamp and shine it toward the wall, a bright spot will appear on the wall. The lamp is our search for truth, for understanding. Too often we assume that the light on the wall is God. But the light is not the goal of the search; it is the result of the search. The more intense the search, the brighter the light on the wall. The brighter the light on the wall, the greater the sense of revelation upon seeing it! Similarly, someone who does not search, who does not bring a lantern with him, sees nothing. What we perceive as God, is the byproduct of our search for God. It may simply be an appreciation of the light, pure and unblemished, not understanding that it comes from us. Sometimes we stand in front of the light and assume that we are the center of the universe. God looks astonishingly like we do! Or we turn to look at our shadow, and assume that all is darkness. If we allow ourselves to get in the way, we defeat the purpose; which is to use the light of our search to illuminate the wall in all its beauty ... and in all its flaws. And in so doing better understand the world around us.

:)

See now if a guy in America can create religious aliens then surely we can create religious pictures?

"Babylon 5's creator JMS has done a remarkably even-handed portrayal
of religion, showing both positive and negative aspects. He shows
characters' approaches to spirituality as an integral part of their
development. He deals skillfullly with mythical themes and
archetypes. Does JMS do these things in spite of or because of being
an atheist?"

Note to all those "But I'm not religous" people out there :)

Edit: Now I'm getting all kinds of ideas from B5 of all places. Just that they might not work if you haven't seen B5.

B5 was great. I emailed JMS once. and got a reply, and he didnt tell me to stay away or he would get an injunction like the famous girls do :p

I almost posted a photo of Ivanova...

Ivanova is God!

:)

Looks at date

Hopefully next few days i can get out, weather allowing and do the shot i have in mind. Not going to be anything spectacular and a definite points scraper unless i can do another shot i have in mind.

I too have an idea - not entirely sure if it will work - and due to busy life etc it will be my last hope (ooh isn't Jedi a religion? ;) ) and will only have a chance to take it tonight when I get home from work.

Sigh, wish there were more than 24 hours a day or that I get more than 23 days holiday! :(

Really quite surprised...got about a third of the images submitted this month compared with last month. Suppose it can be like a lot of things, the most number of women turning up to an aerobics class will always be on the first night ;)
