OCUK Rolling Road Day 11 @ Eurospec (Guildford) - Sat 19th March 2011

Glad to hear that Monaro sounding as it should!

But £1200 just for the catback, am I reading that right?
If so the profit margins they are making is simply daylight robbery.

Can you not import the exhaust from US/Australia?

Just in comparison to the Mustang I importanted a full set of headers, race cats, x-pipe and the rest of the exhaust for less than £1000 landed. This is why I hate the UK for car stuff as most simply take the wee when it comes to tuning. I did a lot of ringing around when I got the Milltek for the EVO as the price was £1600 fitted, after calling around, checking online I finally got that price down to £850 fitted, which goes to show shopping around pays off.

With the Mustang I just imported parts myself and fitted them myself wherever possible.

UK is just a rip off, I mean look at new Mustangs and Dodge Challengers, the importers are chucking 10k profit on, for the sake of what? Id rather import it myself, I had no issues with warranty claims with Saleen, hell they even paid shipping to the UK for parts replaced under warranty. :)

You had a Saleen Mustang Gibbo? Was it this one per chance:

Snapped it outside the mighty OcUKs old HQ about 5 odd years ago now... there was always some nice metal around most visits :)

That was indeed my Saleen. :)

Work hard enough and you can insure anything.

Just sounds like you are blaming the world for you being a slacker...

For how much. I'd pay £2000 to insure one for a year which I think is a reasonable amount to look to pay at 21 with 4years NCB, brilliant post code.

Everyone I speak to either just says "Come back when you're 25/30", "Do you have LHD experience?" or "That'll be £9000 please sir.".

Plus I was looking at a 2005/2006 s197 GT so not even a Saleen!

I'm comfortable estimating that you could insure it for £5k or less.

im going to have to pull out, the clear coat on my golf has reacted with something over the last few weeks so i will have to save up for a full respray. Ill need all the spare cash i can find. :(

They are cheap to insure, mine was £550 per year all mods declared, the EVO is £850 in comparison.

With 4yr NCB and at 21 you should easily get insurance sub 2k on one. Especially now as values have dropped, mine was insured/valued at 28k, wheras you can now pickup a V8 S197 for circa 15k if you shop around.

Have you looked at specialists at all or with limited mileage?

I had a quote for my DC2 of £273 with Peter Best Insurance the other day. Cracking stuff but does have a few negatives being a classic policy, limited to 5k etc.

Just realised I might make the least power on the RR, Honda VTEC horses contain muchos aural pleasure though :D

Damn, was looking forward to mooching around your G60 :(

I'm not going to pay 33% of the cars value to insure it. £2k is fine, £5k no way.

Apparently there have been a couple of big s197 crashes in the past 2 years, and it means under 25 is pretty much no go.

I've just logged into MOCGB and this is the PM I got back when I was looking into it from A-Plan (who are suppose to be very good)

Hi James,

Thank you so much for your PM. If I'm honest, I will struggle on this one this year. My insurers typically are over 25's unless you have owned the vehicle you are insuring for over a year or so. Since the recession they are really cracking down on what we can and can't do. So for us this year, its a no quote.

If you do go ahead and get the vehicle, please give me a call next year and I may be able to do something. Sorry I can't help further.

Regards

Chris

At the moment under 25 is a no go. Even if I said you would pay £5000!! They are an absolute nightmare at the moment. But they have to rely on statistics and at the moment the small minority have spoiled it for you :-(

A-Plan were about one of 10 companies I phoned, all of which said "No" or "£StupidMoney".

I was looking at a £15k~ GT but had to totally drop the idea due to insurance. A 335i is under £1000 so that'll have to be my next car I think - even though the Mustang is the ultimate dream car and as soon as it is possible I will get one.
