OCUK Rolling Road Day 9 - Its booked!

I have to admit, being behind the engine and having good soundproofing (compared to the likes of the 205 :p) I only notice it when it's making noise from high revs...and it sounds good not bad.

When I pulled into the pub and reversed into a space he said he's glad mine sounds like a bag of spanners, as his does too. As I say, not that I've noticed it.

When cold and at idle it does sound noisier, but then it's cold and at idle.

Yes but our 6 cylinders sound like a bag of spanners at certain revs...mind you, mine has a reason for that...it's ancient. :p

Mine sure doesn't, actually it growls at lower revs and then as you get past about 4500rpm it starts to sound a little bit like an M3, same sort of mechanical rasp.

4 cylinders bad.

True, but Turbo is still > NA ;)

Why am I reading Fox's quote as an Animal Farm reference? Would the full thing then go something like 4 cylinders bad, 2-stroke better? Surely not!

It sounds great when driving, he's talking about revving it at idle. Bag of spanners is perhaps a bit strong, but they dont sound utterly glorious. At list his doesn't, my 530 doesnt, Ollys 530 doesnt, the Z4 3.0 doesnt, the 330Ci I test drove once doesnt, etc etc :p

Oh I wouldn't say mine sounds great at idle or when revving it with the car standing still, it sounds ok though. I slightly miss-understood what he was talking about there.

I'm not sure i would use the word great either, but i did take "bag of spanners" in the sense that you would say an old XUD sounds like a bag of spanners :)

Guys, this is a very big might but somebody else might need to organise this day, due to a possible new job.

If it goes through I'll sort it out with someone else before hand, but just so you guys are kept in the loop :)

Naa better not, it's auto and twin turbo.
DSG boxes are fine as I can run the dyno in manual mode but the triptronic VR-4 still uses a torque converter IIRC

Hmm, damnit! I'll do some searching and see if there's something that can be done to allow it to be run successfully!

Can we run a 'Whos car sounds the most tractor like' competition?

I wouldn't win it though.. honest :o

If I come in the missus' Galant, that sounds like a tractor as it's got some VERY noisy hydraulic tappets, which I've yet to replace!
