Well 99% of the timeLies!
Been in the US for a while now, what grinds my gears, no banter in the work space, it's all small talk, pretending to be nice etc etc. But zero banter and fun. At least here in California. I miss walking into a UK office and the whole team just throwing insults around, feels a lot more friendly and fun. You just don't get the same level of 'friends' at workplaces here.
If I'm honest I prefer the nicer USA work atmosphere, I prefer to be greeted with a "good morning, how are you " rather than
a " hey ***face, get dressed in the dark again ? ".
People here go along with it to be part of the "gang " but banter and insults can be hurtful to people
with fragile egos.
Having commuted across London for 20 years, I agree with everything you wrote.
A personal peeve of mine is fellow pedestrians walking in the opposite direction (especially on zebra crossings) that make eye contact with you and then adjust their course to walk directly at you.

People who sit in traffic with their foot on the brakes and blind me
Yeah that really annoys me too and there's something in the highway code about it. It's tricky with automatics right?
Christmas!
Not sure if it a pet hate or not.. but people walking around with their heads in the mobiles devices watching TV who appear to actually think the world around them has stopped, especially for them.. I must have seen at least a dozen people walk straight into the road without looking and one right in front of a bus. She had no idea how close she was from spending Christmas in a coffin.
