OCUK RTX4060TI review thread

I didn't find the review as bad as people make it out to be. I've no idea what people expected, he mentioned several times how close the 6700xt is, and that if you own a 2060 or anything older than that then this is a decent upgrade. And all of that is absolutely true, but somehow people are mad. Wtf

The problem is highly recommended award at the end. People are mad and rightly so. How can you give that card a highly recommended award? Wtf :)

Pretty much that although i wouldn't call it a script. All companies sending out review samples will include a press pack with suggested talking points, it's up to the reviewer if they go with those talking points. Obviously the company want people to focus on the good while ignoring the bad, it's their job to sell the product.
Unfortunately if they don't toe the line, then likely they won't be receiving a press pack next product launch :(

That's not the reviewers job tho, their job is to provide honest and unbiased information so people can make an informed decision.

reviewers should not be making any recommendations or citing opinions on what you should buy at all, when they start doing that, which a lot of them do now... they are marketing for the product their are reviewing.
And in this case, some of them, like JayZ2Cents put out a video that was nothing but marketing for the product, it should have had "this is a promotional video brought to you by Nvidia" pastured in green at the top of the screen for the duration of the video, because that's what it was.
No it's not but just like IRL not all reviewers are 'good' at their job. To be fair i have some sympathy for them because understanding a complex product like a graphics card is hard, not everyone is going to have sufficient knowledge to know if the marketing spin is true or not, i certainly don't and i wouldn't say I'm totally ignorant when it comes to computer hardware.

On the subject of reviewers opinions i couldn't disagree more, IMO it's the reviewers job to make a recommendation and give their opinion. However i do think some reviewers have difficulty when it comes to forming independent opinions, that they (understandably) get swept along with the companies PR, spin, hype for a product and allow that to effect their opinion/recommendation more than it should. It's a fine line that reviewers have to tread and while they may not always get it right i don't envy their jobs.

I have not taken that site seriously for well over a decade. I used to love going there as a kid at school though :D
yeah its been around long enough to become the meme it is today and i see some of these reviewers going the same way and being about as credible as ign before too long
i still see the ign rubber stamp 9/10 on lots of products

In a way i feel for the Nvidia employees as they were given this card and they had to come up with reasons to buy it, i can't remember what review i watched but IIRC one of them did say how Nvidia staff on the conference call last week sounded like they felt awkward, almost embarrassed, when queried over certain aspects like the memory situation. It's why i could never do a job in sales as you get asked to go out and sell a product that may well be crap, to extenuate the positives and play down the negatives, it's either that or lose your job.

Instruction for trying to sell this poop at this price came down from on high.

Wasn't they overall positive about it just looked like it was being advertised for Nvidia when this was meant to be unbiased and honest review?

Imagine people who are less aware watching that, the only positive things I can think of the product the power it uses and being the cheapest 40 series so far but that's twisting it because rest of the series is over priced

But yet have massive list why it's bad

What does that mean? So, it's a theoretical maximum that the platform could achieve? Seems like by using whatever it is, it's skewing all of the figures.
This is not theoretical anything, it's the actual numbers. Every generation is split up into multiple chips, f.ex. AD102, 103 etc. The biggest chip has a certain # of cores which is that generation's maximum (the perfect die is usually only used for the professional cards, but the x90/ti can come very close). The exact cut of a chip that goes into a particular model, i.e an x60 etc, changes every generation based on manufacturing defects, marketing strategy etc. What the chart shows is an increase in price with every new generation for a proportionally equivalent share of cores, f.ex the card that had near 25% of maximum cores in Turing gen was the 1650 Super (27.8%) and it cost $159. For Lovelace it's 4060 Ti (23.6%) and it costs $399. That's all.

I only watched the nexus review and it looks like Nvidia had a meeting and concluded that no gamer shall have a good card for under £600
For me it looks like they think no gamer should have a good card under £1200.

I still think the 4070 and 4070Ti are shocking for the price they are selling them at. We are used to getting x80 series level of performance between £600 and £800.

When you say they do you mean anyone specifically? Because IMO more than one reviewer seems to have leaned to heavily into Nvidia's positive PR spin and lost a certain degree of objectivity.

I think you're being overly positive myself, yes it has lower power usage and it's the cheapest so far but those aren't redeeming qualities IMO, it's a 4050 Ti in all but name for $400. You'd expect such a low end card to sip power and just because it's the cheapest SKU it doesn't change the fact that Nvidia are asking $400 for a card that at most should cost half that.
