OcUK RX5800X3D review thread

5800x3d will age fine, especially since future cpu-s from both brand will have more cache in original versions so game developers will put more and more data in it, and 5800x3d greatly benefits of it.

I highly doubt that.

Multiple hundred watts of power, barely contained thermal output and bent CPUs and motherboards is the hallmark of ultimate performance. So until such time AMD can do the same, they will always be a 2nd tier joke.

To be fair AMD have so much more mindshare now than they did just 3 years ago, and the do have what constitutes a lot, i would go as far as to say a significant chunk now wait on AMD rather than Intel before deciding their next upgrade, that is a level of belief in AMD over Intel.

There is also a significant chunk who have the opposite view, a belief that Intel will always top AMD, but i think that is diminishing and turning because while Intel still make good high performance CPU, Alder Lake is great, its really not much better than AMD's ageing Zen 3 in performance terms, and it does have a problem with power draw, people see that and with that increasingly think Intel are starting to look a bit second rate to AMD, which Intel are well aware of, of course they hate it.
Did you notice how after initial Alder Lake vs Zen 3 reviews suddenly there was an explosion of people comparing power consumption in cherry picked games? I don't think that's a coincidence, i think the Intel marketing arm got on to reviewers and 'complained' they weren't being fair and started dictating what they should be doing to be more fair.

And then you have crap like this.

I was plodding around the site and noticed this blog post, recommending the power hungry toaster as the chip to make your eco-system with seems to be a bit of a missed mark to me!

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/blog/the-best-hardware-to-make-your-gaming-pc-more-energy-efficient/

I'm no fanboy of either side (I just go where the price/performance is), but not even mentioning the AMD at the moment is a bit of a miss to me.

Clearly this is a bad joke, only its not....

I suspect that's an Intel paid ad, which is nothing unusual AMD do it too and there is nothing wrong with OCUK running paid ads but the fact that its focusing around power efficiency is hilarious, this has Intel's Ryan Shrout written all over it....
Intel are fast becoming known for very inefficient CPU's and they hate it.

"Unlike earlier generations of CPUs, recent releases, such as the Intel 12th Alder Lake generation, typically have lower wattages and TDPs. "

:cry::cry: nearly spat my tea out!

My gripe isn't really about the products it's the disingenuous spin. Everyone is at it at the moment. Just sell stuff on its merits, if it's not the best lower the prices accordingly. There will always be a market if the price is right.

Someone did a lot of testing with their 5800X3D. Good read which can be found here.

Testing included Stellaris and this is a pretty striking result.

AMD was not sure if the product would be successful, and many doubted the product itself and the benchmarks published by AMD, especially since it is leftover from server product, so seeing it equal in gaming with Intel best product is amazing success, 3dcache has bright future and can't wait to see how they optimise Zen 4 to have even more benefits of it. AMD said current implementation is only single layer, there will be more, and also in future revisions OC will be enabled from the start. If AMD can beat Intel with 10-15% IPC deficit, what will Zen 4 do to RPL if they have similar IPC, and literally every leaker believes Zen 4 will beat RPL even without 3dcache.
