@muon Have you ever used a 6900 XT? There are two different types, the XTX and the XTXH variant. All have identical core counts, the only difference is the quality of the core in terms of max clock frequency. The XTX was the top SKU, the 7900 XTX replaces that as the top SKU for the 7000 series.That’s why it’s the successor to the 6900 XT(X).

The 6900 XT has two variants, the XTX and the XTXH. All 6900 XTs fall under these two categories. They have the same core counts, unlike the 7900 XT and XTX, the only different is the XTXH variant was released at a later date and is identical to the XTX variant except that it is a better binned piece of silicon, and allows for slightly higher voltage. They are all branded as XT regardless of which variant core it has.
The difference with the 7000 is the top SKU, the successor to the 6900 XT, is now branded XTX.

Can you stop trying to justify Frank's comments. There have not been cards sold as 6900XTX.
If people want to claim their slightly different stepping of the 6900XT is a '6900XTX' to make themselves feel better, then they can go ahead.
AMD have not sold and do not advertise a 6900XTX and nor do board partners. In your reddit thread note how they are all 6900XT cards.
Frank is not now talking about some secret 6900XTX in that twitter thread.
If you believe the naming convention so much, where is the lower bin 7900XT with the same core count.
If people want to claim their slightly different stepping of the 6900XT is a '6900XTX' to make themselves feel better, then they can go ahead.

Never heard of a lower bin of 7900 XT, I’m just pointing out that the successor to the 6900 XT is not the 7900 XT despite
Them both sharing the XT branding.
Also, I’m not trying to justify anything, I’m just attempting to explain to you that all 6900 XTs are either XTX variants, or XTXH variants. There are no lower core count 6900 XT variants. Even TPU clearly mention it in their GPU database. Indeed not, that was the 6800 series.
Was the XTXH just highly binned cores or a later revision?

The XTXH variant (also called a 6900 XT cc @muon) had the exact same specs, core count etc but it was better silicon that allowed more voltage 1.2v for XTXH vs 1.175v for XTX. They also shipped with higher power limits and clock speeds, but they were actually the same apart From that and all Branded as XT. I can see why a distinction has been made as people who have never used the cards (cc @muon) get confused. In his defence, I can see why.
Power color had the 6900XT Ultimate which was the XTXH version.

No there is no 6900XTX SKU. You will find zero evidence of it other than forums of it being released. Show me a card for sale now or in the past where an AMD or an AIB say their card is a 6900XTX.
AMD's website lists every SKU.
No one has released a 6900XTX card. It isn't an official card and Frank is not referring to an imaginary card to compare the 7900XTX with the 6900XT. Why doesn't he call it the 6900XTX?
Besides all these supposed XTX cards are not $999 msrp. The only reason they have higher power limits is because they have AIB bioses. Lots of AIB cards have higher power limits. Also some binning is usually done.

The MSRP of the 6900 XT was $999, and the 7900 XTX is $999 too. I paid £999 for my 7900 XTX. The successor has the same MSRP.

Please list them out, curious to see the list of games so we can see the performance of the 7900 XTX with this feature.
Afaik it is more like a core (variant) than a stepping, XT is just the SKU.
AMD don't necessarily match their branding with the core code hierarchy (or even the core at all), e.g. Navi 23 XL, but the 6600 doesn't have an XL SKU.
Navi 21 XT is the 6800 XT, Navi 21 XTX/XTXH is the 6900 XT. Navi 31 XT is the 7900 XT, Navi 31 XTX is the 7900 XTX.
