OcUK RX7900 series review thread

Afaik it is more like a core (variant) than a stepping, XT is just the SKU.

AMD don't necessarily match their branding with the core code hierarchy (or even the core at all), e.g. Navi 23 XL, but the 6600 doesn't have an XL SKU.

Navi 21 XT is the 6800 XT, Navi 21 XTX/XTXH is the 6900 XT. Navi 31 XT is the 7900 XT, Navi 31 XTX is the 7900 XTX.
Thanks, the way you’ve explained it might be easier to understand.

What Frank says on twitter and what's in the AMD 1.5x slide are two different things imho.

Angry man on twitter is calling AMD out on the 1.5x slide and saying its FUD.

It does not appear to be FUD but Frank's twitter history is not helping and its likely that the small print on the performance slides is where the gotcha might be.

One possible explanation is that AMD might have taken the 7900XT power efficiency for the 1.5x slide and the 7900XTX for the performance slides and then screwed up the test rig description. It would not surprise me if the AMD lab found that the fastest configuration for the 7900XTX was using an Intel DDR5 rig with SMT off (or something like that) and used that rig for the benchmarks, that would explain the RAM speed discrepancy. Nobody at AMD wants to admit this publicly and here we are.

That's why we need OCUK forum people to submit findings, as it validates this kinda thing in the real world (or not).

If true, not really good news, potentially faulty gpu's at the silicon level doing the rounds. Though i find it very hard to believe that rdna 3 was delayed by a year, that would have meant it would have been released a little over a year after rdna2...which would be very unusual since we've been in 2 year cycles for years now.

Doubt it, in the past amd used intel cpus's and still had it listed in the "notes" at the end of these video presentations. Why would now be any different? They're gonna pair the fastest cpu to get the best performance out of their gpu they can.

According to MLID now is a good time to buy GPUs because a 10-20% price increase is coming next year

RDNA 2 was released only 16months after RDNA1 so who knows maybe AMD did plan to release earlier.

Until we see more data, rather than a random dude on twitter posting stuff, I am gonna label this as FUD.

The real MRSP kicks in and the discount ends. Nvidia and AMD are both equally guilty of this rotten practice.

And reference cards already gone if the Youtuber, Not An Apple Fan, is correct, he says he tried to order a reference card from oc uk but got an email saying it was oversold and he'd have to swap to an aftermarket card because reference cards will not be restocked

It's not gone yet, just due for a resupply but after Jan/Feb it's likely to never return and others will have to deal with AIB prices before it drops below msrp in a years time

Untrue.

Our email stated you can wait as we are securing additional stock or you can change your order to another alternative card or request a refund.

We also have more MBA XT on the way and more XTX to cover the over sold back orders.

As the saying used to go don't believe everything you read in the papers, guess now its the same for social media and youtube. :)

I watched the stream of him buying the card and he was chuffed and relieved when the payment went through. It was his community that actually paid for it with the promise of doing his best to obtain one for testing.

He was truthful about what the email said but just didn't think more cards would come, wasn't willing to wait and on a budget. He ended up getting a refund and buying an XT which shortly after displayed as out of stock.. he did not get a confirmation..

Could have been a great bit of free PR.

Good analysis, pitty AMD doesn't want to provide any details to validate their claims, the data from reviewers doesn't hold, AMD lied and Franky Azor is making a fool of himself on Twitter

AMD should just hold up their hands and say "yeah clearly its not where we wanted it to be, we shall work to fix it"

Robert Hallock, the trusty face of AMD left, now i'm wondering why, because this is pathetic, RDNA3 is clearly and very obviously not performing right, it is sometimes slower than its predecessor, ok.... that's bad.

This running around trying to put out fires does not inspire confidence.

i mean if you were going to say that you would say it straight away not after you have dug the hole deep enough to get stuck in
