OcUK RX7900 series review thread

Does this guy know how to OC? He’s hit the power limit of the card.

As per above i don't think he knows much of anything when it comes to GPU's, i think this is probably specific to AMD GPU's because he never actually uses them, he has the same sort of ignorance about them that you see a lot of when people call AMD's driver bad but haven't actually used them since the ATI days.

He admits to being an Nvidia fanboy and that's absolutly fine but as a tech Tuber the onus is up on him to spend a lot more time with AMD GPU's than he clearly does, he's also not bright enough to learn quickly. When i went back to AMD with 5700XT i hadn't been near an AMD driver for some years, it took me 30 minutes to get to grips with it.
I just cannot understand how some people have such persistent PEBKAC, many other tech tubers can do it, but somehow he can't.

I like Jay, i really do, but.....

Was like when Ryzen 3 came out he put an unspeccced voltage or a one a prior CPU ran on, and when it didn't boot he said they were rubbish. Surprised he remebered to put cooler on it.

He's not an amd guy so he doesn't know what he's doing. With AMD GPUs you have to undervolt them to overclock them; it sounds very counterintuitive to get bigger clocks with less voltage but that's how AMD GPUs work

The worst part of this is that he's prepared to put up a video like this without doing research, it's so embarrassing

Surely people don’t actually take any advice from Jay? He’s entertaining (sometimes) but he’s constantly wrong about tons of topics. Not someone I would watch for factual info, more light hearted entertainment…

That guy is a moron. Doesn't have a clue when it comes to AMD.
Beggers belief he hasn't done any research before uploading this crap, stuck on the Nvidia mindset of overclocking, AMD isn't the same

CC @RSR

What never ceases to amaze me is the number of people who feel the need to post negativity about the brand of GPU they don’t have - and this is true in threads about Nvidia or AMD GPUs. It’s like they need some form of endorsement about the choice they’ve already made.

It would be good to peruse these threads and find predominantly direct experience and assessments of the cards, rather than the constant negativity and conclusions from limited data, largely based on 4th hand information.

This is ultimately the danger of the interweb (sic) - anyone can set up online, appear like a knowledgeable source and post whatever they want in a largely unchallenged way. It is entirely down to the reader to sense-check, and many don’t - believing the one source the first find.

Some of the posters you see on forums and other social media use the same techniques that are used for "reputation management". They must be pretty dedicated to their chosen brand to go to the effort to go out and learn those techniques.

This is very true.

I’m not sure how much is dedication to their chosen brand rather than fear of something with a stronger value proposition. If the latter, then it is even more nonsensical, since we each have different priorities in judging a value proposition …

In all honesty though seeing stuff like this, i'm gladd i didn't jump day one. I still intend on getting an XTX but ill wait for good custom card stock early next yet, let the teething issues settle out, and let people understand how they work. I sure as hell wont so i'd at least like some competent guides to help me out. Seems like i'm not going to get that with people like Jay not knowing what they're doing.

That channel is a mixed bag, it can be very opinion based. There's some great stuff of YouTube, including Digital Foundry and Gamers Nexus, but there are legions of content creators making money feeding the clickbait hype train. It all looks very slick, but some of the advice is very poor.

I agree. There are one or two posting in AMD threads of late with a clear enjoyment of posting anything that trashes AMD and adding nothing of value to the discussions. It's becoming a pain reading the threads and visiting the graphics forum. I won't name people but I think we all know who they. Some post weighted arguments or a balanced understanding which is great. Don't understand why they can't stick to their own threads if they dislike one brand so much. They're as unwanted here as Ian Watkins in a creche.

The the pro 7900XTX overclockers will get a 4GB and 6GB vram XOC BIOS, us plebs won't see that but, ultimately that's one of the solutions.

The Tier 1 AIB 7900XTX cards will get binned vram chips and binned GPU's so, there's a good chance performance will do another leap, even without a big power-limit increase as the base components will be chugging less juice.

The XOC Bioses will be the one though, I imagine disabling 20GB of vRAM would have a big effect on power-draw and OC stability.
