OcUK RX7900 series review thread

Nada had a wild ride with her 7900xt

Her Asus Tuf card has bad coil whine, high idle power draw and everytime she reboots her PC the performance of the graphics card changes - Frank Azor personally reached out to her but he was unable to resolve the performance issue and AMD is investigating it

I've been using the card (Sapphire MBA 7900 XTX) for a day now,

Everything seems fine except I've been noticing some micro freezes with the computer now (randomly half a second or so).

Anyone else?

Not sure if related, but I saw this exact same thing on PC Centrics channel when he did his first build using the XTX. Looks like a driver/software issue? (god I hope it is)

Yea problematic, No event Logs or anything so not sure how to go about diagnosing this one.

re: the coil whine, regardless of AMD or Nvidia, people on here can and have done 3+ PSU swaps to see if its the PSU. Sometimes it is, sometimes it is not.

How many so called high end EVGA PSU's have been GPU coil whine engines in the past?

The problem can be, with some of the clickbaity youtubers, is that they don't do what we do here and go and buy another PSU. And then another.

If this particular vlogger has already done the PSU shuffle then fine but that's why i trust this forum more than youtube.

Her other complaint (other than coil whine) was that the XT was sometimes faster than than the 4090 in Modern WarefRe/Warzone 2, and sometimes a little slower. Sheesh…

The issue is that between reboots the performance on the card would vary by as much as 30% where as the 4080 showed 1% variance - she even specifically says in the video her issue is the the card shows no consistency which points to major issues with it

AMD saw Intel crash and burn with their completely awful GPU release and thought 'hey! I can do that too'. What I'm shocked by is how they can't even deliver a well made product anymore, with tons of issues with both coil whine & tjunc temp throttling, similar to the poor launch of RDNA 1 - remember all the washer mods. The question I have is, it's because the penny pinching led to these issues on the cards for MBA MSRP or were they simply incompetent? And to think they did it so well before with RDNA 2 with the 'worry free' graphite pads, which by comparison was a flawless release (also on the drivers side).
