Drivers etc? Fine wine… What are these 5800xt or 5900xt 16 core thingamajiggers like - seem to have missed discussions on those here??

Eh, bit boring. Amd seem to have done amazing things for the efficiency of these cpus. But basically nothing for performance.
I do think there's potential here based on how high it's scoring in single core benchmarks. But multicore looks like its hitting the power limit really hard.
Should be $50 cheaper
Yeah but financially it would be the best bang-per-buck to drop one in, but tbf you prob have the itch & fancy a complete upgrade
I disagree, on average similar or slightly better performance but using a lot less power 65W instead of 105W is a win in my book. These chips should run cooler than the previous gen at full load.2 years and this is it what a waste

The improvements to AVX-512 performance are helping when it comes to those tests. That should be good news for RPCS3 as well. The power efficiency gains are also pretty impressive.Great Linux performance though especially at 65W:
(Their site might time out though).

Yeah on one review Starfield is running slower on the 9700X than the 7700X.Depends on the workload, but the performance is strange that’s for sure. For some use cases the performance uplift is huge but others are minimal. As you point out, the only consistent metric is reduced power use.
That 512 bit FPU should work wonders for PS3 emulation
In gaming the power difference doesn't look that big
How much they are asking for them with the current pricing of the 7700x and 7800x3d
imo that's poor going after 2 years and how much they are priced at , no doubt we'll see price cuts in a few months
In games CPU use from being hammered to hardly used, with everything in between.
