[OcUK Staff Builds] rjkoneill's TJ07

no they do not

not when my OCD upgradeitis kicks in :D

bit of an update...

first of the 160gb intels is here, currently backing up to make the move over to that
the 2nd ssd is in the post today

i have spoken about the tinted windo in the top and there is a problem with the fabricators, that might have to go on hold for a few weeks until it gets sorted.

either way, that one is out of my hands

the luminous panel, i am currently in talks with Charles H from murdermod, he is waiting for confirmation on his next batch so that should happen soon enough

the porblem is, the more time i spend on his website, the more i want to spend on all that custom gear

looks great, whats ur 3d vantage score?

it was around 24000+ with the 920 [obviously the 4890s are not the greatest cards for vantage]
i havent run vantage with my new chip yet

So what made you sell your old one for this one rich ?:p

the chip i currently have is very special

and i fancied a change

and i hate 920s

[no offence to 920 users, but when you have overclocked 4000+ i7 920s they get a little boring]

either way, fornowagain has got a truly epic cherry picked chip :p

Are you saying that i7 950 chip is better than i7 920 chip and how difference is it ?

I suppose you won't hold i7 950 for much longer until u will change to i7 970 (6 cores & 12 threads)

nah the 950 is not worth the extra - just fancied a change

So what clocks have you got out of the 950 rich ? :D

lots and lots of GHz :D

all will be revealed when the system is finished

Nice job all the same, even if its only 920's. Look forward to seeing more on this ongoing build, a really great looking system as it stands, credit to ya.:)

cheers mate

well well well

look what we have here

perspex window for the roof of my case
this takes the fan numbers down by two. a really nicely finished product in my opinion, very impressed.

it contains the template and instructions on how to mark out the tubing holes for my luminous panel

Can I be rude and ask roughly how much you have spent building that ?

It looks out of this world, very nice indeed

thanks for the comments, it cost a lot, thats all im saying

Can't beleive I never subscribed to this. Looks brilliant, love the socket as well :D

thanks, its from a gigabyte board

Hi, Great build and case. Can I ask you about the memory cooler. Is that the larger Corsair Dominator fan and you changed the fans inside. If so, great work and can I ask how you did it and was it easy as I have the same fan and find the corsair fans slightly buzzy/noisy. I would like to change the fans for quieter fans. Could you possibly give me some advice, Thanks.

it is the tri channel dominator cooler, i put some 60mm fractal fans in it

i had to dremel the body of the fractal fans down to fit the fan blades sit flush with the body of the cooler

then i spliced the two wires together and braided them at the exact distance to get it plugged into the header next to the Dimm slots on the board

if you do want to change the fans, you will need to cut down most fans as the frames are too wide

Back to the Drawing Board!

well spotted

there are some changes i am making, not for aesthetics, more for performance

for instance.

my 4890s are causing me no end of headaches

not a single ATI driver since the 9.10 have worked well in all the games i play.
if something works well in one game, the next game i install will have issues
finally got 10.2s and they work great in COD MW2
BC2 gives me flickery water and random crashes though so i have to run it in single gpu mode

so i cant win, its annoying me so i am going back to a single card. hopefully it will eliminate all my multi GPU issues. i never had issues with SLI but nvidia dont seem forthcoming with any cards yet. so i am changing the graphics

also, i have added a sound card, mainly just because i wanted one :)

i have a while to wait for my murdermod parts so i am trying to get the other bits done in the meantime.

hence, back to the drawing board

changes to the build

still waiting for my parts from murdermod but am expecting some progress pretty soon according to Charles H

removed the troublesome 4890 crossfire and all of the headaches that went alongside them
added a lovely new Radeon 5870. we wont talk about fermi...
Nickel plated EK of course ;)
DSC01518.jpg

the nanofluid spent around 24 hours in suspension looking lovely and white...
before it turned a cloudy/clear/bluey type colour. far from ideal but it has had a 4-5'C temp drop across all 6 cores which is just what i needed
DSC01517.jpg

I had a creative X-Fi Fatal1ty titanium sound card for about a week, the shoddy driver support and clunky interface meant that it had to go. It has been replaced with the frankly amazing Asus Xonar D2X PCI-E Sound Card.
This card is infinatly better and the sound quality is brilliant both in game and in music. plus it looks pretty good too.
DSC01521.jpg

heres where I'm at now

just waiting on the final few pieces :D
DSC01515.jpg

the fans are on one of these

2962.jpg

not sure what its called [its made by sunbeam]

basically all the fans run off it and i am happy with the speed so i never bothered using a fan controller

i have been eyeing up new motherboards, but cant really justify a new board at all. there simply isnt anything worth bothering with at the moment. all the colour schemes are boring.

everything is red and black or blue and black

my murdermod stuff STILL hasnt arrived.
its only been since January when i ordered it. the latest news is that the light panel is nearly ready but my res holders are not even on the to do list.

im getting a little impatient.

in other news, i have decided i want to achieve two things for when the panel arrives [if that EVER happens]

1. i want to tone down noise even more, this means getting rid of fans and pumps.
2. i want to tidy up the tubing route and the whole system in general.

so i have set about designing the loop again. i am going to remove the double thermochill and run the whole rig off the Quad radiator. the entire rig will run off the four fans on this radiator and the one in the psu.

the rig has a 980X cpu and a single GPU, so it now produces much less heat than it did.

the fans in the roof are being replaced by the tinted roof window and the rear fans will be stripped out.
i am thinking of getting a blank rear panel, but going by murdermod's current production rate that may happen in around 2012

either way i am cutting down half the tubing from the front of the case by installing a single pump.
my two DDC pumps are very good but i am a sucker for anything bitspower make.
so i got this imported from the states :D

i have covered the cable with the MDPC braid and put a black molex connector on the pump instead of the nasty white one.

my tj07 is going to be half empty at this rate.

will keep you posted with updates when/if my panel ever arrives

lol how long have you been waiting? I ordered some bits in February

since january, its been far too long now :(

Very nice clean cut rig rjkoneill :).

cheers :)

I really like the simplicity of it :D

its far from simple, i plan on making it a little bit easier to maintain when i need to drain it [and add new hardware]

looking at a revo drive at the moment to remove all sata devices :D

That is just plain terrible service :(
to be fair, CharlesH at murdermod is trying pretty hard, and he is only charging me the deposit of $100 that i payed in the first place to apologise for the delay.

That would be very awesome, I'd love to make a case purpose built for no hdd's/dvd , but the cost at the moment arrrrrgh the cost .

i dont use an optical drive, but the idea of no sata data/power cables is pretty cool. and the immense W/R speeds of the drive are slightly amazing. i will wade in if they sort TRIM out on it.

ive gone and done it...

sick and tired of the waiting for the luminous panel, I had to get some enthusiasm for my system back

seeing the countless parts scattered around my room waiting to be installed i have finally cracked...

Crossfire: Round 2
DSC01895.jpg

I am not going all out on this yet. after the catastrophic failure that was my 4890 crossfire i have decided to take the 'suck it and see' approach.
i miss having two graphics cards, however the poor performance and shambolic driver support for my 4890s meant that i couldnt keep them.
i spend a lot of my day fixing other peoples problems so i like my own system to 'just work'. so this 5870 can stay on air cooling for the time being.
if i decide that i am happy with it then it will get a lovely acetal&nickel treat from EK waterblocks. if i see poor performance and problems then its going.

also, i plan on getting a revo drive. if i have crossfire 5870 cards then the double slot backplates will cover the only available slot for my sound card to go in.
weighing up the pros and cons at the moment. the single 5870 has served me well so the second has its work cut out.

also, i have underclocked my 980X @ 3GHz. i know this may sound stupid but my daft attempts at 5.5GHz benchmark runs have left the chip very unstable
at anything above stock. i am looking at Xeons at the moment to replace it but having never tried undervolting etc i have to say, i am very impressed.

running @ 3GHz which speedsteps down to 1.6GHz using 0.91v on full load.
memory at 2000MHz 8-7-7-20 1T

never goes above 40'c and performs on par with a 4GHz nehalem pulling much less from the wall.

Rebuild... Sponored by Peroni

after some very saddening news from Murdermod that i wont be getting my light panel any time soon, I have decided to go ahead with my rebuild.
the panel can go in when it arrives. if it arrives

I would like to thank my sponsor...
