OCUK Steam VR Group Chat

Haven't tried it, but I did have QuiVR, which seems pretty similar.
Tried it with a friend in co-op and it just seemed never ending. My arm was killing me after one session and I got a refund :D

Have you tried both?

Oh, and does anyone have Arizona Sunshine? That's pretty good in horde (4 player) and co-op (2 player).

I've got Arizona Sunshine on Rift - I think it's cross-platform capable now. Didn't used to be.

it has always been cross platform however you had to use a special option where you get the game to give you your ip address, you give that to your mate and then connect that way. Are you suggesting this is now fixed and it properly supports cross platform? if so that is great. i made the mistake of buying this through steam and it does not natively support the rift on steam, only the oculus store version does :(

The latest update to Arizona Sunshine enabled true cross-platform play. I'm not sure if that includes microphone support (I've never played this MP) but matchmaking is definitely cross platform.

brilliant thanks for this...... it means i will no longer have to muck about when i play it with my mate.

I have the steam version. Rift suppoort seems ok to me.

IME steamVR is ok, however when i compared the 2 side by side native support without using the wrapper ran noticeably better. (this was in a different game - pinballFX VR ).... however generally IME any issues i have in vr tend to be in steamvr titles.

Sure, I'm not biggest fan of steam VR either.
I'm just saying that it works fine with the rift and that saying it does not natively support the rift on steam is a little misleading.

If the oculus version runs better, then that's a different matter.

Oculus native games often perform better than Steam VR games. That's not to say that most Steam VR games perform badly.
The biggest issue with some steam VR games is they're optimised for the Vive wands, leading to wonky Touch controller controls.

SteamVR officially support touch now so i am not sure even that is an issue any more. my problem with it is purely one of performance, and i find steamvr titles often mess up my height and stuff (but not consistently)

@Uncle Petey I didnt intend to be missleading and this was not a general rift support on steam thing.
plenty of steam titles natively support the rift... Elite Dangerous, pCARS2, ETS2, ATS - there are loads more, infact i would guess more do than don’t.

however steamVR on the rift isnt native support, that was my point, and i didnt mean steam at all. AFAIK this is literally completely accurate

Arizona Sunshine on oculus store supports the rift natively. when I bought it I (in ignorance) assumed then that the steam version would also do the same, however, much like pinballFX2 it doesnt, it only supports steamVR**. this is not native support, it is a wrapper which sits on top and as such is an extra layer of complexity***

**unless a recent patch has changed this
*** incase it isnt obvious i am not a programmer so am probably butchering the terminology ;)

Yeah, you're right. It doesn't have a 'launch in oculus VR mode' like some other titles, and it does run in steam VR mode.
I guess when you said it doesn't natively support the rift, I took it as meaning that you were saying it didn't have proper rift functionality or something.

I definitely would've got the oculus version, but the steam one was on sale at the time :D

yeah i think i may have gotten it at the same time ;) ... of course the silly thing is, like most of my games, by the time i finally got around to trying it it had been reduced even more on both stores!.

It's still an issue because lots of Steam VR games are developed primarily for Vive wands, which have a completely different control layout to the touch controllers.

For example the touch controllers have an easy to hold grip button, and most games use it for grabbing things, but the Vive equivalent is so hard to press that it's normally used as a toggle, or the trigger is used instead for grabbing. So you'd try on Rift to pick up and hold something by holding the grip button and find it doesn't work.

Also controls designed for the touchpad don't map well to analog sticks, leading to dodgy movement controls or hard to navigate menus.

Finally the angle you hold the Vive wands and Touch controllers are different so shooting games need account for that otherwise the in-game gun angle is all wrong which makes it hard to aim.

All these are solvable issues but not all games do them, and some games don't do it properly.

Gentlemen, getting you lot together for a session is like herding cats :D

Shall we sort a rough plan out for this weekend and/or Friday night or something?
I'm sure most of us have a few games in common. Might even be a laugh to get a good group together in Rec Room.

The weekend.

Nights are always a no no, but good for the day. I presume most of us will be lumping on Zero if it's not stupidly priced. If not that, then Payday appeals, but anything I have ill join.

Ok, here are the days I am available most often.

Tuesday-Evenings.
Thursday-Evenings.
Saturday-Evenings
Sunday-Anytime.

If you are organising something during the day time and you can give a couple of days notice, I will probably be able to make it.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings are a no go.

I'm available most evenings after 8pm, except Wednesdays. Saturday and Sunday I can play, but it really depends if I've got anything else on.
Also it's really tricky to drag me away from Fallout 4 VR right now, so I'll need some persuading :)

I'd be really interested in playing some co-op in some other games too.

I have these MP VR games:
Arizona Sunshine
From Other Suns (Rift only title)
Eve Valkyrie (never even launched this!)
Sprint Vector
Echo Arena (Will get Echo Combat when that launches)
Eleven Table Tennis
Dead Effect 2
Bullets And More
Pavlov VR
Star Trek Bridge Crew
Payday 2
Elite Dangerous
Battlezone
Project Cars 2 (Though I am rubbish at this)

Poker Stars VR.

It's free! is totally steam/oculus friend orientated for private table invites.

Played it for an hour last night, it's fantastic at the table. Anything up to 8 players.
