Oculus Quest 2 Pro / Oculus Quest 3 Thread

What concerns me re higher resolution though is the PC has to then be able to drive it. Its a struggle now where only a 4090 can really drive the Q2 to its upper limits.

That's the thing isn't it. It's why I like the Quest Pro as the resolution is technically slightly less than Q2 but it looks massively sharper.
Of course you don't have to max out the resolution in PCVR to get the benefit of pancake lenses and reduced SDE.

Boz of Meta says the ringless Q3 controllers use a combination of tracking LEDs, IMUs and hand tracking. Supposedly works great but not as good as the Pro controllers. Given how laggy hand tracking is I wonder if it will be that good.

Article on the mixed reality capabilities of the Quest 3 :

I like parts of the pro however given how weak it's processor is compared to quest 3 and how short lived it was as a gaming headset (yes I know it was not sold as one and it was delayed by almost a year... ) in truth I doubt I would have bought a quest pro 2. dont get me wrong I am disappointed when any high end headset is canned but I am more hoping some of the pro features make it into the quest 4. (eye tracking with foveated rendering etc)

I wish they had delayed the quest pro to be honest and waited till they could put in a quest 3 processor (which is cheaper than the one in the pro)

also the quest pro was meant to have the same 3D depth perception that the quest 3 has but the hardware was altered last minute , further proof that the quest pro processor is not really fit for the purpose they wanted.

the actual headset itself design wise however is excellent imo

i think they said there would be at least 2 headsets coming.
i feel like eye tracking would be one of those requested features if not mouth as well.
i thought i saw some lay offs in the VR studio or reports of it making a loss, so may have an impact on its development.

I think Meta will be relying on third parties using HorizonOS to produce the more niche higher end headsets.

I love the Quest Pro design (though the Globular Cluster Comfort Kit is almost an essential add-on), and way prefer it to Quest 3, even with a halo strap. It's just way better balanced and lighter. I love the ability to play without a facial interface which is much nicer than having it clamped to your face.
