Oculus Quest (Santa Cruz)

I don't think the lower Hz makes you sick. They picked the 72hz because it's the lowest refresh rate they could use before flicker becomes noticeable for most people. They would have went lower if they could because what actually makes you sick is when your frame rate drops below the refresh rate.
It was in response to a comparison with a monitor.

When you have nothing to compare it to then it can still feel fine. Like someone said ignorance is bliss.

Don't think I've had a monitor that has made me physically sick. It's more to do with the rotation and depth and your brain just says, no :D. I am sure there is a more scientific explanation.

WHat a day!
finally unpacked my Quest,
getting it started up and the chair and room layouts done was easy enough,

getting the headstrap right was a PINA!, and you really goto make sure the strap is sat right under the back of yours skull

it then isnt too bad,

getting the direct connection to PC was also not too bad, to the point i hadnt realised i was actually sat looking at my desktop lol not sure if it makes a difference but i have a 34" LG AW so theres a lot of desktop there,

had a quick go of the superhot demo, very cool,

setting up VD and side quest, was simple enough right up to installing it onto the headset, it just did not like it, after several restarts and turning the headset off and back on, it sorted itself and let me install VD on the Quest,

so think im there, just need to play a real game now lol

it does get a bit confusing with all the different desktops, never know which home screen im in,

before getting the quest i just imagined it would be like looking thru 2 holes in a headset at this virtual world

but literally am blown away, if it wasn't for my marital distractions and having a job to go to id still be there!!

next thing is to get the headset to recognise my xbox controller, coz some of my games dont work with the included oculus controllers, according to steam, like elite dangerous,

also what do peeps use to clean the lenses, can you use a clean dry microfibre cloth ?

Setup the Xbox controller via the phone app

I use https://www.amazon.co.uk/ZEISS-Lens...ens+wipes&qid=1587483937&sprefix=ziess&sr=8-3 for cleaning

Messing around with Richie's Plank Experience last night, and omg flying around the city with rocket boosters is so much fun, they need to make a AAA game using similar mechanics.

It would be awesome flying around like Iron Man (ish), or slinging webs like Spidey. Attack On Titan would similarly be awesome.

You can get those experiences/mechanics via PC VR (link/VD/ALVR)

Spidey/aot - windlands
Superhero flight - megaton rainfall

:)

What headphones do you use for getting really immersive sound? Are you able to use the same wireless desktop to transmit sound over the 5GHz wifi link? Headphones would only need a very short cable to go straight to headset?

Settled on using TB VR headphones as they have a built-in amp and yes they are Turtle Beech but sound awsome in Beat Sabre and Audica :D

Also got

-Koss Porta pro with magnetic clip printed thing, not bad.
-Xiaomi Piston IIs modded to be separate L/R buds and with Comply tips so they stay in. Just use these when travelling.

I've tried a few different ones but I'm now using the kiwi design one, it's quite expensive but it's vented and you get 2 pads with it. I have found this to be the most comfortable one I've tried. Definitely don't get the amvr one though its awful
Perhaps it's just your odd-shaped face :p Sod all wrong with it. Do you work for Kiwi Design?

If you do a search or read back a few pages you will find other people got the same speed.

It might be all the decoder/encoder can handle at the moment. Is the official 'link' cable any different?

Has anyone installed OTT, noticed it has a 'link' tab now with profiles for different PC setups (sorry if already mentioned).

Does anyone know of any games where I can just sit on my sofa in a stationary guardian boundary and do some relaxing 3d games, like perhaps some puzzle games, target practice/shooting games or strategy games that don't require me jumping around the room?

thanks

I find just pottering around the world in Wander quite relaxing and can use a stationary boundary.

THANKS ! was trying to save up some monies for 2tb nvme card! now ive no chance! lol

ordered, dont like not having complete kits! and despite Oculus shurking on inlcuding the cable it should have been with it, anyway its on its way, and have other uses for the other USB 3 cables i had bought,

its good people are really trying to maximise what the quest can do, best £500 ive spent :)

 why should they of include the link cable which are not lstandard usb cables for a service that didn't exist when released and is still in beta. Would you have paid another £50+ on top of it's current price?

Actually you raise a good point, however, its not a 3rd party that made the link, its oculus, so technically its should be part of the package! and, yes i would have paid extra on top! given the popularity of the link and the quest, it has meant anyone new buying one has had to wait indefinitely for the official cable due to lack of stock/demand

 eh?

Don’t know if anyone can help shed some light on this problem I have , when I load games and get to the menu part it kinda goes all shakey but then settles down, I have just done a full windows 10 pro re install and hoped that would fix it, but alas it’s still there, noticed it when loading project stardust yesterday, before re Install it did it to iL2 BOS as well, not sure if it happened to all games, but starting to think it is the headset ? But does not seem to affect game play ,

any ideas ?

Does it work fine in Quest native games? If so it is not your headset.

What are your PC specs?

what would you call a native quest game, Vader immortal ! i got that one, i will give it a try, maybe i should try being connected to link and VD separately to see if its a connection problem, will try shortly and get back to you

specs are
x570 i aorus pro wifi pcie 4.0 / Ryzen 3600 watercooled
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 3200 MHz 32 GB (16 GB x 2), CL16

Windows 10 pro

Not connected to the PC in any way.

I must say, for as basic as it is, Eleven Table Tennis is the most realistic of all the VR games I have played.
It is rather good had it since beta when I had a Vive.

If you have access to a 3D printer make one of these bad boys as I did :D

lol, that's awesome Hyperseven. Did it make much of a difference?

It's very realistic! I keep forgetting that I am in VR and I keep going to leave my bat on the table. The irony of this is that I am usually putting the " bat" down to adjust my headset :p:D The brain is funny!!
It's just a more natural way of holding the paddle. Once Velcro is fastened it is quite solid. Got it of thingiverse. Reminds me of the Wii and all the plastic tat you could get for the wiimote :D
