Oculus Rift

Hi Kenneth,

Thanks for your purchase!

This email confirms that we've received your order on March 12, 2014 at 04:20 PM PDT.

Items:
Oculus Development Kit ($300.00) x 1 = $300.00

Shipping: $30.00 USD
Tax: $66.00 USD
Order Total: $396.00 USD

So, I've read specs for occulus rift:

NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater.
Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater.
8GB+ RAM.
Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output.
2x USB 3.0 ports.
Windows 7 SP1 or newer.

I have an i7-3770k, which should be fine, but a bit concerned about my current 7950 crossfire setup. Is there any news on drivers / optimising crossfire?

Might be the deciding factor as to whether I go for Playstation VR on the PS4 or Rift. Pro's and con's for both I guess...

I've got a 280x crossfire set up and still planning on getting it. If they can't sort out crossfire I'll go single card later in the year.

Only bit I'm worried about is the hdmi clock thing as I can't find any info on the 280x supporting it.

So...here's the thing...availability...

What do we expect? I mean realistically Oculus now have a lot of backing and essentially this will go very well tomorrow from a pre-order perspective but selling out? Or going to different batches etc, it will be interesting to see.

Essentially a guy from my work has been extremely excited about this and now I kind of am too...

Totally depends on price for me, if it's less than I imagine I'll order if not I'll wait for Hive to come out and see reviews for my hardware.

Its a no brainer for me - I have 34 oculus ready games of which I have paid for 5. The rest are all free developement games like LASERFACE or The Mental Torment Episode One. Not to mention the 22 simulators such as the great Lava Inc. Then there programs like VR cinema and some great tech demos - all free...and mods which as Oculus CV1 takes off will probably be made for more and more games. I'm thinking Squad: greenlight in Rift

If it'as anything like the DKs, you pay, they deliver. You pay maybe shipping and custom fees. Don't recall that I did though.

That sucks.... I'm interested enough to put a small desposit down but I'm not gonna spend full whack at this momen in time. I know a lot of information About the product is out there but I feel I dont know enough about the final consumer version yet. No doubt They'll explain more tomorrow but then I feel rushed into preordering.

Meh. Just wait for the regular orders. A couple of months or whatever, get to watch reviews and stuff, save some money. No big deal really.

I think the only issue I'd find with that is I don't think reviews quite get across how the experience is, so you end up missing the main selling point and dig into specs. I was always going to wait for a CV rather than a DK, and I'm glad time is finally here where I'll be able to order one.

I preordered the DK1 the first day it became available on their website, so kind of gutted as well. But then again I was thinking about sitting out the first generation of commercial HMDs as I don't think I would be satisfied with the resolution.

I'm OK with the whole thing. I bought a DK1 because I wanted a DK1. The kickstarters deserved it.

Palmer Tweeted some interesting things last night:

  • Pre-ordering a Rift gets you a spot in the first Touch pre-order list
  • They wont take any money until it ships
  • He also mentions again that the Rift price is subsidized, meaning no Touch discount if you buy both
