Oculus Rift

There were just over 9000 original backers, 7000 or so who put the cash down for a DK1.

I was one of 'em, and I'm grinning like a lunatic atm []-)

Nice! I could not bring myself to get the DK1 but bought in at the DK2 stage. I think its a just reward, the KS brought the rift to facebooks attention. Very generous though!

Thanks for sharing. Not a huge breakthrough IMHO.
It's not.

These were things already planned and in development. We knew they'd be adding a camera to likely do some sort of pass-through/object identification functionality quite a long time ago(we just didn't know exactly how it'd work). We also knew they'd be improving the ergonomics(which they also say is part of 'the breakthrough').

It was all just marketing nonsense, trying to spin the delay as something positive.

I already thought it was a standard feature before the news in truth, well as far as the camera goes and I am sure this was already shown in a demo?

Not a huge technical breakthrough, but a good idea. When I tried the Vive I was constantly terrified of smashing something/someone/myself....it distracted from the immersion significantly, having to worry about where I was in the 'real' room. The grid was not reassuring at all, especially as game elements were appearing outside the grid.

If you're going to have a walk-around type setup.....this is needed imo.

I left Alien Isolation installed for when I get a CV 1. It was awesome on the DK2 but unplayable for more than about 15 minutes due to low resolution (trying to read text) and low refresh rate.
Can't wait to try it when I get CV1

Yes, an awesome gesture from Oculus to supply a 'Kickstarter Edition' of the Rift to DK1 owners. I would be interested to know how the 'Kickstarter Edition' differs from the standard CV1

Apart from the recommended spec, the Rift will require:

Windows 7 SP1 or newer
2x USB 3.0 ports
HDMI 1.3 video output supporting a 297MHz clock via a direct output architecture

The last point may be an issue even for people with mobile versions of the gtx 970 or gtx 980. Also USB 3.0, it doesnt say if its backwards compatible with USB 2.0. Personally I have only just (6 months ago) upgrade from a rig that was USB 2 > UBS 3
