Oculus Rift

I'm saying make a loop around you, it wouldn't be 1ft x 1ft, and it wouldn't need to be 6ft tall either

The loop isn't 6ft tall, that's the human that's careering towards the ground :p

I don't even see the need for one, you just step off it, you'd have to be a bit of a div to fall over

I think you underestimate what being locked into a VR headset can do for your internal senses. People have said even stepping off a foam yoga mat by mistake can make you feel awful and it would take you straight out of any immersion anyway.

Also, if the loop (for clarity, at waist height and not 6ft in the air) isn't to keep you within the constraints of the Wii Board's footprint and prevent you from falling off, what's the point of it?

Yeah, it will stop you falling off, it won't however fall over because it's braced against the floor

Google virtuix omni, I'm talking that but without spending £600-700

I'm struggling to see how you can't understand that something with a Base and support in all directions won't let you fall over

I'm understanding it just fine, I think it's you who can't see how impractical it is.

The Omni works because it has a large base which isn't going to shift and gives you room to genuinely move. Now scale that down into something the size of a poxy little Wii board that's not even square in dimensions - you can't see how that just wouldn't work sensibly?

I'm out :p

Arghhhhh, because the size of the wii board doesn't matter, the rig that stops you falling can be whatever size it needs to be to support you

Anyway, I'll let you know how I get on without any support

No, this bar this is a horrible idea.

The point is if you lose your footing at all, it's not like you instinctively know where to grab/fall on to prevent falling. VR will mess you up too much. Remember that video where they prank the guy on the roller coaster in the shopping mall. He keeps falling over for like half a minute.

If you believe you are in the game for real, stepping on and off things that are not 'there' or hitting a rail in a similar manner is going to through your sense of balance off wack and likely make for an uncomfortable experience... Kind like when you just trip up on something you didn't know was there. Regardless of whether it keeps you from actually falling over or not I don't think this is a good idea.

There are youtube video of people doing exactly this whilst playing skyrim and crysis3... a game that simulates walking is exactly the same as a roller coaster? Obviously

I don't want anything restrictive, I don't think I need any support, will find out in a few days

Rumors of the first shipments being confirmed for kickstarter backers are knocking around on the oculus forum and reddit. Though some are also pointing out that the source may be unreliable.

just got an email since being despatched between 1 and 3 weeks.

Same.

Which is great, except I (supposedly) cancelled my Pre-order several weeks ago! :o

Edit - yep, they didn't actually cancel it yet I've got email proof of the conversation with their CS rep!

I remember reading "first pre-orders shipping 28th March" or something on those lines!

How about a bmx on a treadmill and play dave mirra? Would be interesting trying the superman no-hander 360 move he could do! (Dismounting the bike whilst spinning in a full circle?!)

Honestly, I'm going to keep it in the unopened box and do just this. Going to wait until I have it actually in my hands though before listing it, don't feel right getting others to sign up for a pre-order haha.

Just need to make sure I take all the precautions against scummy buyers, I've sold a lot on eBay but high value items always stress me out!

I think I'm going to do this TBH. I'm certainly in the first batch for the Vive so if I can turn a 50% profit on the Rift just by flipping it I'll do so.

tbh considering the huge demand there is/was for this...its a bit **** you guys doing this (though i understand the temptation to profit massively). No doubt plenty of people will be doing it. I have nothing against selling something you own just the exploiting of the situation against other genuine preorders.

Also buying purely for resale purposes is against the Oculus TOS.

You may not purchase Products from the Oculus website for commercial resale

Commercial resale. Selling your personal rift is a private transaction (and something no T&Cs could prevent).

I agree it's a bit of a cynical thing to do though.

First, commercial resale isn't the same as private resale. I'm not doing this to make profit for a business.

Second, I preordered with the intention that I would love the oculus. But now I have read more and more about what the Vive is capable of and I have jumped ship. I still have the option to open up the oculus and take a quick look, and then sell it on. I'm then asking if other people want it so badly that they can't wait an extra month or two, then please make me an offer. But I got my place in the queue because I was genuinely interested in the headset.

I dont dispute the reselling in principle just find it a bit scummy to do it knowing the demand for this at this time and huge profit to be gained (Also considering how Oculus said they are basically making zero or hardly any profit on the CV1).

If someone changes their mind and decided to go with the Vive instead the decent thing would have been to cancel their oculus preorder but thats me...different strokes for different folks i guess.
