Oculus Rift

Unless this was always their plan and they had a set allocation put aside for this. I can see how it would still annoy people though.

What do you think compared to the DK2? Presuming you had a DK2 as well

Never got to try the dk2, only my original dk1

I am really impressed to be honest, resolution is fine to me, and some of the stuff in there looks uncannily real, Farlands when you view from above and some of the bits in the space ship look great

you have to really look for the screen door

downsides are the halo effect from the fresnel lenses, It can be a bit distracting in dark scenes, and also the black in dark scenes is not really black, is like a cloudy greyish

on the whole though im really happy with it, gonna be spending a lot of time using it

I'm gonna have to get a new gpu though I think even though my 6gb 780gtx seems to be running things fine, there is a message saying my pc is not up to spec all the time, its quite annoying :(

I had a DK2 and now have a Rift CV1 and a Vive.
The resolution is noticeably better on the CV1 with less screen door. Also, significantly better blacks and it doesn't suffer from ghosting like the DK2 did.
It's lighter than the DK2 and easier to put on and adjust.
All in all it's a better product in every way.

Super, just what I wanted to here.

How about the Vive vs the DK2 and Vive vs CV1? I know it has the walking around and controllers part but taking those out the mix how does the actual headset compare?

The immersion was very fun on the Vive when I demoed it but simply don't have the space to use it and can't imagine it holding its longitivity after the initial "wow im moving around whilst moving" phase has passed

Thanks for this as I own a dk2 atm. How is the 'glare' problem on the CV1? Exaggerated?

Ordered Rift 30 mins into pre-order. Ordered Vive beginning of April and they are already charging me for Vive so delivery shouldn't be too far off.

Oculus have really shot themselves in the foot with the launch.

Just received my rift preorder email advising I've been charged and it's on it's way, happy and sad at same time as I'm on my stag do this weekend and won't be able to use it lol,

Haha stag do money already put aside :) and rift money too. Looking forward to it all next week now. Can't handle the drink as well these days as hang overs appear to be lasting a lot longer. But can always blame the vr sickness on the hangover :)

I just got my processing email and they've charged me - had a May 16-26th estimate.

Shame that my block of leave is now almost over, but I'm so glad that it's finally coming I don't even care lol.

For those that have trod this ground before - how long between processing email and the shipment arriving?

After the initial "Wow" of the Vive experience, I now find myself reaching for the Rift more often. It's less hassle to put on (no messing with earbuds), lighter, fits better, and is more comfortable.
The focus of the lenses is better on the Rift than the Vive leading to more of the image being sharp. This gives the impression of higher resolution and makes games like Elite and DCS much more playable.

The Rift is the better headset at the moment, no question in my mind, but the Vive is the more complete VR experience. I think that once the Rift gets its touch controllers, it will be the one to have.

I'm planning to sell my Vive or return it under the DSR in the next week or so. I think that speaks volumes.

Wow. It does indeed. I wonder if I'll feel the same?
I loved my DK2 and am still using it now but have fallen for the extra experience the Vive could give me so cancelled my CV1 order.
Maybe I'll stick with what I have for the moment then maybe jump ship once gen 2 hardware is touted.

I watched that vid and have issues with it, mainly he keeps saying the Vive will stay plugged in and get lots of use, but then says he will return it for a refund because he doesn't like the IQ and software issues (which by the way are probably due to his setup).

I have used both and am firmly in the camp that the Rift is the better HMD, but only marginally and not the massive difference he suggests, and the Vive is the best overall package right now. Touch is still unproven, so we won't know just how well it works until it's released.
