Oculus Rift

It's not a massive difference for sure and in isolation I would be hard pressed to tell the difference. It's only really noticeable when I've been using the Vive and then I put the Rift on.

I finally decided to cancel my rift preorder. The Vive does everything I want (and continues to surprise me).

If I see one in the wild I will put one on and see if the IQ is better as people say, but to be honest when fitted properly the Vive is more than acceptable. The room scale and hand controllers are too important. I've set my Vive up for desk/standing play and it feels so much more underwhelming.

I hope the touch controllers live up to the expectations for those sticking with the Rift.

I can live without motion controllers for a while I think - I have my FFB wheel and HOTAS setup so it's not like you need to be stuck using an Xbox controller and (having not tried room scale I must say) those sort of games - driving/flying/space combat are the ones that most interest me for VR. Hopefully by the time touch comes out there will be lots of awesome motion controller games that will look more appealing to me.

Of course I'll be more than happy to try out a vive when I get a chance! Unfortunately no one I know will have either a rift or a vive lol.

Anyway, at the moment it would just be nice to have anything... Hopefully now my order has processed I'll finally be able to experience SOMETHING.

Generally pretty good with motion sickness - I fly for a living and going in/out of IMC usually brings out motion sickness if anyone is going to get it. You also get used to your body feeling one thing and the instruments telling you another, the old adage "trust your instruments" is very true - your body lies in flight!

Of course I may well eat humble pie and spend the next week lying on the floor wishing the world would stop spinning! Hope not :)

Are you in London? If so, come over and give the Vive a try.

Although I'm very sure it will change your mind completely on being happy with a seated experience, so maybe its a bad idea haha

Haha yeah probably a bit dangerous - getting married this year so not sure I can get away with two HMDs!

That's a very kind offer - I'm down a little south of Gatwick, but I do occasionally head up to London to see friends, perhaps if the timing works out I could pop in for a little demo if you are feeling particularly sociable that day!

I'm starting to feel like a kid on Christmas Eve now - I keep checking to see if Santa (Old Saint Ni.... Errr UPS) is on the way, but no tracking yet :(

I'm probably going to get one attempt to bowl over the missus with VR. She likes a bit of mariokart but that's the extent of her gaming really (besides bloody candy crush lol) - any suggestions from you VR veterans as to what to show her for my one and probably only attempt at wowing her?

That game would creep me the hell out lol...

Vive or Rift Zeeflyboy?

Vive then Tiltbrush, Job Simulator or if you don't mind spending a tenner, Audio Shield, anything else will do the job just as well really.

Rift I have no idea as most titles are "normal" games with a game pad.

Rift, I'm sure Vive/Touch would be more up her street but c'est la vie!

Ahhhhh, bugger - I just found out today was a national holiday in Holland (where the european rifts ship from) so despite getting the processing email nothing will move until tomorrow at the earliest and of course it's a UK bank holiday on Monday. :roll eyes:

Perhaps my excitement at getting the processing email was premature!

Eve code, Sales invoice received by email and UPS tracking information on Oculus order page.... Would have had it tomorrow had it not been a Dutch national holiday yesterday... Guess it wont come til Tuesday now given we have a Bank Holiday on Monday >.<

Yeah same here - tracking says Tuesday now so just bad timing with the Dutch holiday and the U.K. One, shame they weren't the other way around!

Oh well, few more days riftless but at least it's on the way!

Had my tracking info through and logged in to UPS to see if I could amend the delivery address but it's not letting me, has anyone else had this issue?

(going to give them a call this afternoon but thought it was worth asking!)

Hi guys.

I have a dk2 and am 50/50 about upgrading or waiting for the next iteration.

Whats the screen door effect like vs the Dk2?
Whats the clarity like on stuff.
At the moment i'm finding you have to get pretty close to things to see any
real detail. Any better with CV1 or more or less the same?

thanks

Screen door is hardly there now
Clarity is much better than DK2 (no colour fringing in the peripheral vision for example)

It's not night and day but it is a pretty big leap forwards. For example, Elite Dangerous was pretty unplayable on DK2 due to not being able to read any of the displays. Not a problem with my CV1.
