Oculus Rift

I've managed to limp along with the DK2 on a 3GB 780 for a while on Assetto Corsa. Obv had to reduce the graphics levels but was easy banging over 75FPS.

There was a recent update to the Oculus app that had a major impact on my FPS - pretty much unplayable now and gave me eye strain for 3 days.

Anyone else had any issues?

Do we know if OcUK are going to be stocking the rift next month? I know some of the high street retailers are claiming to have stock late Sept.

If its late Sept, you might as well wait the extra few weeks for October and the release of touch, get some idea of pricing and early reviews from people actually using it.

Even if you dont plan to buy touch at first, honestly you will want them as being able to interact with something other than a controller massively improves immersion

I mainly want it for elite and some driving games, so the touch controllers aren't really that important to me, so I'm happy to get those later down the line.

E: right, I took the plunge and ordered it from oculus. Lloyds flagged it up so it's on hold now. Not sure if I need to contact oculus to let them know it's sorted now. Anyone else have the same issue?

Devrij i had a similar problem last month or so.
my bank delayed so order did,nt go through.
i contacted oculus after a few days and they told me to edit my card number for another, save, then put the old card number back in, this moved the order on within a few hours.
Hope this helps just in case yours does the same:)

I just swapped to paypal and that sorted it, thanks.

When ordering from the oculus site it changed to the 549 sterling price and says it includes tax. Combining that with an email confirmation from oculus Ireland makes me think there shouldn't be any import tax. Hoping so anyway!

No need to worry - there's no import tax when buying a Rift.

Surprised Oculus didnt increase the price of the rift in line with brexit similar to what happened with the vive. Good show Oculus!

But yeah you shouldnt have anything else to pay.

They did didn't they, used to be 499 GBP and now it's 549 so about a 10% price hike

It was 550 pounds when I preordered, though the delay Oculus had put on us getting it too us, they took 50 pounds off the price for that reason.

so at 550 pounds its at original launched price.

Pre order price was 499 from the start for me, plus 30 shipping costs.

No thats wrong. edit my mistake. I was originally charged £529 so £499 + 30 delivery. They then knocked off the delivery charge for all preorders so i only paid £499.

hrmm does it say £549 including taxes and shipping? Is it the total on the invoice no other extra costs mentioned?

edit 4 :D

No thats wrong. £549 is the price i was to pay as well but then Oculus knocked off the delivery costs for everyone who preordered the rift. Which brought it down to £499.

Just because you got free shipping does not effect the price of the actual headset. If the price was £499 before postage then and its £549 before postage now it obviously gone up in price.

ive done about 4 edits since that :p

UK price has gone up in price due to brexit yes. (lower value of pound) If it is still $599 that converts to around £460 nowadays. Add on taxes and you get £549 i assume. Dont know if other countries have experienced a price rise (or just only brexit shenanigans).

The rift compatibility tool says that:

My CPU (i5-2500k @ 3.3GHz) is not sufficient
My ASMedia USB3 Host controller has issues with the rift.

My GPU 1070 walks it as does my 16GB ram.

The steam VR test gives my system a 10.9 score.

Will the rift run OK with teh above specs or do I really need to upgrade a perfectly good CPU and get a PCIe USB3 controller ?

If your cpu is overclocked it'll be fine. Also, I got the usb3 message as well, but I do have a compatible Intel controller as well. If I disabled the via usb3 controller in device manager then the compatibility tool was all smiles. Have a look in device manager to see if the asmedia controller is the only one on your board.

Also, my rift is arriving tomorrow :D
