Oculus Rift

I dont have the vr lense lab lenses but apparently they are pretty much flush on the oculus lenses (though not touching) they sorta click into place apparently. So this should give much better fov as opposed to wearing glasses does. A couple of folk on the oculus forums were not happy with the results though.

Yes they fit flush with the lenses. Mine fit nice and tight, there are people on the forum complaining that they don't fit very well but I assume its because they haven't put them in properly. With CV2 oculus really need to fit some slots for perscription lenses to be installed.

I've also noticed that while VorpX now supports the Vive, it is not far along enough in terms of development for non-native VR titles, whereas the Rift is firmly established.

Do you have VorpX and managed to get it working to a good enough standard to actually play any of the 'compatible' games? If so I would be interested to hear which, all the games I have tried end up making me feel ill apart from maybe half life 2.

When I move my head it tends to move the world instead of just having head tracking which causes almost instant nauseous feelings. Half life 2 I cannot get the FOV right and everything feels too zoomed in, despite modifying numerout settings.

All the other points about headphones, space etc. are spot on

The built-in audio with the Rift is a huge selling point, and the simplified setup process and more ergonomic design also contributed to my decision. Agree with you about the built in audio, great feature to have and it's pretty good quality!! Which is a bonus.

But, I am having no luck with VorpX. Things look terrible, everything is always zoomed in wrong, either too far or too close. And it seems to make me ill more than proper VR titles do.

But I am only using an R9 290 which might not be good enough to run things. So I purchased a 1070 today to see if that improves the experience.

I just replied to the same post above :) You have the exact same problems that I have with VorpX. I have tried Skyrim and it looked terrible, my arms and hands were massive!! :D I did have lots of mods, so that might have caused problems. Last night I deleted Skyrim and reinstalled it. Will try it out over the next few days and see is it any better.

Let me kniw how you get on. The 1070 i doubt will make any difference at all. I have a pretty highly clocked 980ti (1470/2000) and the experience is still pretty cack. Its not the fps, more the head tracking, fov and general way it wraps games.

For the tome being im only playing dirt rally and pcars. Vorpx is fun to mess around with but certainly not able (in my wyes) to properly play any game in VR.

Reinstalling Skyrim made a big difference!! Still got the huge hands thing, but it looks much better overall.

Now to download some mods that fix some of the issues.

Just a question about the oculus debug tool, does that only work on games that you have in your oculus library? Or will it work on any game? The reason I ask is that I tried it out on Elite and I don't see any difference? I bought Elite from Frontier directly.

Just watched some of the Apollo 11 experience. It was brilliant until it got to the moon. Neil Armstrong walking across the moon looked terrible. Turned it off there, will watch the rest tomorrow.

If anyone is still reading this thread, can someone advice me what the best VR experience is to date? Not games as I have Elite Dangerous, Farlands, Lucky's Tale and am currently downloading Dirt Rally, so I am sorted on the games front.

The experiences, demo's I have at the moment are

Back to Dinosaur Island 2
Back to Dinosaur Island 1
Oculus DreamDeck,
Ocean Rift,
Introduction to Virtual Reality,
Retro Arcade Neon Demo,
No limits 2 Rollercoaster demo,
Apollo 11,
Titans of Space 2
Mythos of the World Axis,
The Body VR,
Showdown,
Abe VR
Lost,
Invasion

The Back to Dinosaur Island demos are fantastic. If you haven't seen them you should get them. Well worth the effort to get them running. They are my best VR experiences so far.

Are there any experiences/demos that I have missed? Any must have ones?

Thanks Guest2,

I never heard of Affected 1.62, thanks for that. I read the reviews of Windlands and it just didn't sound like something I would like. Might get it later on.

Can't find sightline the chair? Quick look on Steam.

Thanks again Guest, I found the download about 5 minutes after posting!! The Civ1 version worked fine for me. It's really good, the last scene is awesome. I genuinely felt I was falling.

Will try affected tomorrow. Keeps giving me a download error.

Ok Played Dirt Rally for the first time, and it's also the first time I have wanted to get sick. I was fine for the first half of a stage then suddenly felt very queasy!!

The VR experience was pretty cool though. Not a big racing car fan so I don't have a wheel or anything.

Hope when my new 1070 comes tomorrow it will give me better frame rates and reduce the motion sickness.

Even with an overclocked 980Ti I have reduced some settings to low / medium so it doesnt drop below 90fps. Its the type of game where 90+ is required otherwise you will start feeling terrible.

The game is also a bit buggy on some stages or parts of stages in that fps will drop below 90fps (sometimes ~70fps) but gpu and cpu usage will only be at 40 or 50%

I thought my headset was ok because it was working plugged into my motherboard usb 3 ports. None of my USB 3.0 ports were compatible with the sensor, but it worked plugged into a USB 2.0 port. And everything seemed to be working ok.

But, I wanted to see would getting compatible USB 3.0 ports make a difference. So I purchased an Inateck USB 3 card weeks ago and yesterday it finally arrived. Installed it and connect both ports my headset and sensor are attached to it.

The difference? Massive. Everything is smoother, things look better. Head tracking is way better. Motion isn't as nausea inducing. It makes the whole experience so much nicer!!

If you haven't got compatible ports and are running off usb 2.0 ports do yourself a big favour and get the Inateck card.

Thanks for the tip. Mine arrives on Friday. Can't wait to dive back into Elite. It just hasn't been the same since selling the DK2.

Ive had both my oculus and vive plugged into usb 3 ports on motherboard, however it was causing problems. I then had to move my oculus sensor to usb 2 slot, and remove my mouse from there to a usb 3 slot. I have only two usb 2.0 slots

Another usb problem i was having is with the xbox controller usb adaptor, it just didn't work in usb 3 so i had to also use that in usb 2. Now i have oculus sensor and xbox adapter in both my usb 2.0 slots.

The problem that I'm now having is my mouse, it just doesn't like the usb3.0 slot, sometimes it just goes crazy on itself and my mouse pointer flys to the top of the screen randomly!! Its very annoying especially during multiplayer games.

I was thinking of buying a usb adapter to add more usb 2.0 slots.

Just buy the Inateck adapter, it has 4 usb 3 ports, costs about £25. Plug your rift and sensor into that. That frees up your USB 2 port for your mouse.

Okay thanks.

To be honest i was already looking at a usb adapter a few months ago which had 6 or 7 slots on it. But the only reason i didnt buy it still is because i need to buy a new mothboard and cpu soon anyway. Just have not got round to doing it as it worries me to change the parts myself and i dont know any shop nesrby that would do it for me

However i definetly need to do it sooner rather then later as my i3 3 year old processor is very outdated and doesnt even meet the minimum rift specs. I have a gtx1080 to go with it though
