Oculus Rift

I have dived in and got a rift which all stemd from a samsung vr which blew me away bc i dident think it would have any effect on me , i am blind in one eye and my right eye is ok but not the best i can still see but will more than likley loose the sight in the near future , with what i can see i still experiance the wow factor like all the demos and a few games still amaze me still , i am into my horror stuff but i struggle to finish any of them of as they really freak me out , the games i have are

dirt rally
lucky tails
eve valkyre
adrift
aollo 11
plus most of the demos

are there any other demos like showdown that i maybe of missed as its one of the go to things i show to friends

Have you being on here https://www.wearvr.com/?device=oculus-rift.

This is why im so unsure as to whether to buy one now or wait for gen 2, i would want good pic quality and clarity like i have with my X34. But i know the immersion must be great.

Yeah it's a definite trade off right now:
- experience the crazy awesome immersion right now, but deal with the screen door effect, or wait an unspecified number of years until it's perfect. I caved and got it, and frankly I feel it's worth it.

I did just try project cars, and zipping around nurburgring in an old lotus F1 car was very cool, although it did make me feel pretty ill, no thanks to my terrible driving and crashing a lot. I think I need to find my sea legs a bit still!

Dont forget the oculus debug tool to "increase" the res in any game. In Elite i usually run 1.3 or 1.4 and the ingame SS 1.0. I only have a GTX980 though so if you have a 1080 you might even be able to double it.

I have a 980ti so will give that a go. What kind of improvements do you see visually?

Sharper, cleaner image, easy to read any text. Less aliased, little to no shimmering. Note you can achieve similar results using the Elite ingame SS. I would strongly advise experimenting with the oculus debug tool DSR and the ingame SS that Elite provides. I preferred the ODT as i found the ingame Elite SS gave a more aliased image.

I dont even notice or think about resolution when i play Elite even when i am looking for it. Its far and away much better than the DK2 in this respect.

Heres a guide

You could try this tip from someone on Oculus forums if you are struggling seeing any difference.

To get a better image what it does, load up the Oculus World demo. There you can change the pixel destiny on the fly..Once in the demo, hit "tab", then go to "render target" and change the value for "pixel density" (without using the debug tool). Also try with anti aliasing on/off

It's not night and day difference. So don't be expecting anything major. It's very subtle. Some of my friends didn't even notice the difference until I pointed out details to look for. Of course your experience might be different.

Just make sure you don't set the value too high, as keeping the framerate as possible is much more important.

Yeah I have noticed the difference in big screen, for instance when I had the SS high, so will give that a go. Elite is really fine tbh, it isn't really noticeable when you're in game, but any improvements are welcome as I have gpu power to spare

Mine should be arriving tomorrow. I have an Asus P8Z77-V mobo and I'm assuming the rear Intel USB 3 ports should be ok for the sensor? (rather than the ASMedia ones?)

I'm using a p67 so a downgrade from yours, the oculus app says it isnt good enough but ive had zero issues.

Has anyone tried a Rift with crossfire?

Do the games/Oculus SDK just plain disable crossfire, or are the games a stuttery mess?

Or is it generally ok but not perfect?

I've currently got a 7990, so in crossfire supported games it's powerful enough but obviously without crossfire it's just a 7950-ish speed. Wondering if I definitely 'need' to upgrade GPU or if I might get away with it for a bit.

I've run the Oculus test and graphics is the only thing it fails on, SteamVR test gets 6.6 and says it's fine.

Hi all,
I am seriously considering buying rift right now. I just wonder, how the sound is delivered to the rift? I would like to use my asus xonar stx, is it possible?
Sry if stupid question:-)

AFAIK you can use either the inbuilt headphones (which I guess uses audio over HDMI) or detach them and use your own headphones.

For reference, I have a pair of Sennheiser HD600s as my main cans. Received the CV1 this week and have been quite happy playing with the attached headphones. They're much better than I expected.

The built in headphones are really quite good. I'm an audiophile and I find them quite acceptable. The convenience of having them just there on the headset with no messing around seals the deal for me.
And yes, they use audio over HDMI so no need to use your Xonar.

The Oculus headphones are amazing, just make the whole thing easier. I have the vive aswell, and its such a hassle to get separate headphones and put them on, take them off etc..

With the oculus its just put the vr headset on and bang thats it!

Thank you guys for quick response. I have Sennheiser HD650 but will be more than happy to use Oculus headphones if they are as good as you are saying. The thing which confuses me is, with my xonar, I have onboard music card OFF, so will I have to switch onboard to ON in bios to have sound in Oculus through HDMI? Does it not mix with my xonar for normal music listening etc? Daft question, I know:)

No you can leave your onboard sound disabled in the bios, that is for the motherboard sound outputs not HDMI. HDMI audio goes through the GPU.

I did run my DK2 on 280X crossfire....it does (or did) work, but added noticeable latency and stutter. I don't know if it's been improved in more recent drivers/hardware but it's unlikely. Single card is always going to be preferable.
