Oculus Rift

Not sure what caused your BSOD. I have had no problems installing the Rift and no problems with shutdowns either.

The Rift should auto update itself from Oculus.

These are some of my favourites. (I presume you have Touch controllers)

First contact demo,
Oculus Dreamdeck,
Eleven Table Tennis,
Rec Room,
RipCoil.
Knockout League,
The Blu,
Lucky's Tale.
Elite Dangerous if you like Space sims,
Dirt rally if you like racing games.

The go to games for me are Eleven Table Tennis, Rec Room and Knockout League. Suggest you just try all the free demo's and apps that are on the store and see which ones you like best.

Quill, Medium and Tilt brush are great if you like art.

I haven't spent much money though and Rec Room is so much fun that I haven't really time for anything else. The Climb, Arizona Sunshine, Landfall and Superhot VR all get great reviews.

hmmm not sure it will work. He will need at least 3 USB ports if he wants to use Touch controllers. He will also need to see what type of USB ports they are, some USB controllers don't work with the Rift.

New to OR and VR.. What's the best way to watch movies and play non VR games using the Rift ? Is it their desktop app on the store for $13 ? or is there a better way ? Thought i'd better ask before dropping the money and finding out afterwards everyone is using something else !

The one where its selling cheaper :D

I seem to be having more issues with Steam VR games than oculus store games. Such as the boundary and floor height. I seem to be having to keep recalibrating depending on which i use. To me, it seems better that you either stick with one or the other.. Either that or there's some bugs to figure out. Its telling me on Steam VR, that i dont have enough space for free move.. Though its not a bad space i have at my disposal.

There is an update coming from Oculus before the end of February, that should solve the problem at the moment with height. It does seem to happen most when switching between Steam VR and Oculus home. Testers for the new update have been very positive about their experiences, so I am looking forward to it.

Any more info on what else might be in this update?

I think it's just an update to solve the tracking issues and to address some of the issues that the 1.11 update introduced (like the height bug) So far the reports are that the tracking is nearly perfect with 3 and 4 sensor setups now.

A word of warning. Oculus purchasers with Asus mobo's, there's a bad bad bad gremlin thats lurking when you plug into your Rift or sensor into an Asmedia USB 3.1 port (Cyan ones) My Win10 64.-bit operating system BSOD on me while booting, and wouldn't even allow me to do a safe mode, or recovery or restore from prev ver, actually after trying all sorts it took a system reset to get me going again. Then did it to me again when i plugged in a sensor to the 3.1 port again as i was trying to figure out what happened by a process of elimination, on what was now a bare bones install that i was running. After a little googling I noticed a post of the Oculus forums that it happened to other people also.. Though they're saying on the Z170 chipset 3.1 ports, i've got a Z97-A Asus mobo. Eitherway something with USB 3.1 along with the Asmedia drivers.

I fixed it, by buying an Inatek USB 3.0 card, and disabling USB 3.1 in the bios.. I'll never ever plug anything into those cyan ports again.. Anyway every user exhibited the same symptom in that the OS took a huge dump and none of them were able to recover in safe mode or using tools such as sfc or bootrec. So be careful in what you plug your Rift sensor or headset into !

Working great now tho ! The normal USB 3.0 blue ports on the Asus boards seem to be ok, just that the o/s self detonates when you use the 3.1 cyan ones !
