Oculus Rift

hrmm should i buy this first because of the huge saving and then buy the graphics card (no graphics card atm) a couple of months down the line? Cant buy both this month :(

Ouch, tough choice!! Are you definitely going to buy the headset at some stage?

Going to give you two opposing pieces of advise :D

1. Buy the graphic card now, there will be deals for the headsets further down the line, black Friday etc. You will be able to play other games while you are waiting.

2. Buy the headset now, Graphic cards are expensive right now with the mining craze pushing prices up. The Rift is a fantastic price, really too good to miss.

Toss a coin :)

I think option 1. Original plan was to get the headset nearer the end of the year as atm there is only a few things i would be playing in VR. I will be surprised if there is not some kind of deal on vive/rift at xmas.

If you were into cockpit games like Elite/Assetto Corsa/Project Cars etc then the Rift is a massive step in immersion in the game almost a must have, but if those aren't your thing VR is a bit more marginal IMO. There are a few cool games around but no real must haves (unless you're a Trekky and want to play Bridge Crew, but then again that's played seated as well).

Bound to be deals on Rift later in the year/Black Friday as they are being outsold by HTC Vive massively to date.

If you definitely want the Rift then it makes sense to get it while the sale is on even if you cannot use it until you get your new graphics card. Going to be hard to wait to use it though! :)

Is this a permanent price drop? I have been slowly saving up for a Rift but I have a family holiday in a few weeks. I would hate to miss out if this is just a temporary price drop

I would imagine this is only a sale price. The last time the reduced the price they stated it was going to be the new price going forward.

Everywhere that is selling these and the Oculus site itself, all say it's a limited time offer.

Can any glasses-wearers comment on how good the Oculus is at accommodating for spectacle frames?

Price is very tempting but absolutely pointless if I have to remove my specs and can't see a damn thing.

It's a very tight fit. But you can buy Vr prescription lenses that fit the rift. Some folk on here did that. Not sure how great they were

How thick are your glasses? Mine are thin and fit no problem. But, even if they are thick you can still buy VR Frames that will fit no problem, they are reasonably priced and don't have the problems the VR lens do.

Great news on that sale price. Even more so when you consider other headsets coming to market, and the secondary sales dropping to a more affordable level with people perhaps upgrading within the next 6-9 months.

Thanks guys, unfortunately I wear hipster glasses so they wouldn't be compatible with a tight fit.

Those VR frames and lenses look like they could do the trick however. Something to mull over, thanks!

My glasses are ****** huge, I got carried away. (think the Two Ronnies). The width is tight, but most reviewers suggested putting the glasses in the rift then putting it on which is what I do and it's ok. The problem I have is that it pushes the glasses onto my nose, I've just ordered a new interface kit which comes with a deeper one. In all honesty I usually wear my contacts anyway so it's not that big a deal for me.
