Oculus Rift

I was half watching BBC Click yesterday and they seemed to be downplaying VR take up and games in general and the current Oculus Rift promotion. Something along the lines of the price drop only convincing the minority of people that were already interested in VR. I would have thought that wiping out the entire UK stock in a few days and not being able to resupply at a rate to meet the ongoing demand was a tad more impressive than that. Would love to know just how many units Oculus do shift.

Not just UK stock, US, Canada, Most of Europe, BBC are downplaying it quite a bit, They'll have an agenda behind it.

It's not just bbc click that are doing just that, several podcasts I listen too are also deliberately belittling vr with misinformation, Videogamer, and The Crate And Crowbar. I'll no longer listen to the later(ep 197), their take on the rift price cut, the whole vr stick, while pointing out the only positives of vr were it's most least attractive features, was utterly shocking, they should be ashamed.

It makes no sense to me at all. Fine if they want to ignore vr, then do that, but why the belittling.

It's the same on a lot of sites. Most of their information is way outdated and/or just plain wrong.

If they want to bash VR then BASH VR, but, get your facts straight first.

I seem to be faulting on the serve every time, tried bouncing before i hit it, tried hitting it my side first, probably should just look up the rules of it :D

mr_cookie73 hopefully it wont be like a game of squash i had with a chap on another forum, found out after he played for england :D

I tried adding you, but can't find anyone with the name in Steam? Try adding me, Melmac look for the black and white silhouette of a counterstrike as my profile photo with the irish flag.

There will be some type of agenda behind it, There always is with these types.

BBC Click is best ignored. It's a technology show produced by idiots, for idiots.
I wouldn't go that far, but yeah, it produced for those who don't really follow technology, which seems a bit weird, as you wouldn't really watch it if you didn't...

But $%^& - how dumb was that research? Lets give 16 people who aren't interested in VR a GearVR for a few weeks and see what they think of it afterward. What results did they expect? I'll put good money on most of them downloading and watching terrible 360 videos (I'm on the side of 360 video not being VR). If VR enthusiast think 360 videos are generally crap, what will the average person think?!

Then Spencer Kelly harps on about needing more content to "watch". Watch?! What about realtime interactive content/games instead?

^&*$, you're right, I take it back. It's made by idiots for idiots.

I had zero interest in VR before last week, been eyeing a 1080ti for a while, waiting for vega and maybe volta, seen the rift @ £399 and thought hurm, ocuk site died when i tried to order one, oculus wouldnt accept my debit card, friday afternoon I though what the hell i'll just preorder with ocuk, not happy about delivery charge but everyone seems to say vr is mindblowing as bring it lol

Haha it’s pretty good dude! On the opposite side of you - I have a GTX 970 and Just got a Rift - Now I want to upgrade my GPU so I have the best possible performance :p

Virtual Reality is a money sink, but it feels like you’re investing in the future of gaming :)

I'm running a GTX 970 now, yes I'm pretty worried I'm gonna be buying a 1080TI next week too, so instead of £650 spent, it'll be £650+£399 for the rift lol ;(

I'm absolutely in the same boat :p
I've seen the advantages of Supersampling, and I want it :p :D

Can I ask what maybe a silly question, when I run a VR game what will be displayed on my normal computer screen if I take the headset off and look?

It's a cropped image of what is displayed to your left eye. Cropped because the distortion on the outer edges is pretty intense (corrected by the lenses, but rendering it for a flat monitor would cost a lot of resources so they just crop it to hide the distortion).

I've owned a DK2 for a while and my Oculus Rift CV1 arrived yesterday. First impression on opening the boxes was good with the product and packaging looking like quality gear - appearances are important! The Oculus compatibility checker had previously advised that my USB 3 controller was a problem so I had also ordered an Inateck PCI-E to USB 3.0 card. On installing the Touch controllers they indeed didn't like the motherboard USB so I popped in the Inateck card and updated the drivers. Although the Oculus software now gives green ticks there is also a tracking warning, however in practise the Touch controllers seem to working fine.

In use I have to say that image quality isn't that much of a step up from the DK2 and the Dreamdeck experience isn't as impressive the second time around. The CV1 is better than the DK2 but not night and day better and the introduction of god rays isn't exactly welcome. Also, although the DK2 sensor sat happily on top of my monitor the CV1 sensors seem to require more room, which is awkward as I normally sit at my PC with my back only inches from a wall. So to make use of Touch I have to push some furniture aside and point the sensors into the room and run setup again whilst standing there. However once that has all been done it all seems to work fine. My first experience of Rec Room was a bit weird as judging by the other voices it sounded as though I was playing a game with 8 year old American boys! During this time Robo Recall had installed and so I then spent a fun half an hour on that. Certainly it's the Touch controllers that make the biggest difference to the experience and I managed to sustain my first VR injury as I somehow gained a mysterious small cut on my leg. No idea how or when I did it, however I shall carry the scar with pride.

Will hopefully have another VR session tonight and try out some of the other games.
