OCZ Vertex Owners Thread - Test Results

MLC has around 10000 writes and SLC 100,000 writes as far as im aware. Will probably last you a good 4/5 years. By which time you'll be itching to upgrade anyway :P

Tbh prob not much - or at least prob not much that is noticeable to us mere humans other than in synthetic benchtest scenarios. I for one would like to see a 'real world' benching method that we all could use as a standard to measure against - as in Anandtech's SSD Anthology where he uses his own measures rather than the synthetic bench tests that manufacturers quote ad nauseam.

It would be most enlightening!

This was outlined in a previous post within this thread. It's nothing to do with the cache as all drives are 64MB. Something to do with more channels which essentially allows the 120GB and above to do more tasks in parallel.

Thank you for both of your replies. Well, in the end, I went and ordered the Intel X25-M Mainstream 80GB which I recived yesterday. If you're interested, you can see the results here.

Haven't seen this mentioned yet:
Legit reviews looks at the 120GB vertex

Details on V1.1, TRIM and future developments from OCZ - and a ton of benchmarks, all on 1.1

Quoting the above review:

Legit Bottom Line: The OCZ Vertex 120GB SSD is the fastest SSD ever benchmarked at Legit Reviews and is priced right, but needs user intervention to keep it at peak performance.

Can someone post a before an after bench after no TRIM/wiper intervention. I was set on these drives but it's pointless paying £££ for one if their performance significantly degrades after a days use.

Benchmarks please ^^

In case you didn't see my edit in my post then my results can be found here. It's slightly mixed in with me asking a couple of questions but the graphs should speak for themselves. If you would like me to run any other tests then just ask. I will be updating those graphs after I have wiped the drive with HDD Erase and then put on a clean copy of Windows Vista.

Well, I'm not a OCZ Vertex owner as you can probably gather from my previous posts. Though, I'm a bit concerned about the performance of my Intel X25-M. I'm not sure if it's me or something else so I thought I would see how other peoples Solid States Drives are running. I thought I would post in here since there seems to be a number of people that have gotten an OCZ solid state drive. If it's not too much trouble, could someone possibly do a few tests for me please, just very basic ones. Possibly under Windows Vista.

Like for instance, load up Microsoft Office 2007, Windows Media Center and possible Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Multiplayer. I have chosen these specific programs since these seem to take a while to load on my machine.

I do apologise for going slightly of course but hopefully someone will be able to help me out.

Thank you.

If people are interested in another benchmark then I believe CrystalDiskMark is a nice one to use.

Thanks for replying Ninja Please!.

Sorry, what do you mean by strobes the load screen? :p

If I have been logged in for a while, then Microsoft Office does load pretty fast. Though, it is the same as if I was using a Western Digital RE3 hard drive, I can't notice the difference. Are you testing it after you have been logged in for a while or as soon as you log in?

Regarding Windows Media Center, mine is far from instantaneous, far, far from it. Even after I have been logged in for a while it still takes a while to load.

I'm currently using an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 running at 3.4GHz which I wouldn't really call slow.

I'm so disappointed at the moment. :(

Sorry because strobe was a bad example, it "flashes" the load screen so fast that it is as quick as a stobe light changing from on to off. But I never see that little Vista loading circle when opening either. It plays the opening welcome screen real fast and boom. no wait time.

Wow, I certainly can't relate to any of that. I really wish I could. I don't understand why I am getting such poor speeds... :(

Well it's not my OC'd cpu but I have particularly noticed that any program loads up much faster when my ram is OC'd to anything over 1500mhz. The cpu OC directly effects the ram OC so that is why I said my cpu OC is what helps. For example, I take my ram speed just under 1500mhz, and all of a sudden I go through 8-10 pictures when loading gta IV. When clocked to 1500mhz, I only go through 1, and 3/4 of another pic. If you don't have gta iv that may be confusing.

btw- I don't think that helps you with solving your problem as I'm not saying that is the reason yours is so slow. Only why I think mine is slightly faster than others I have seen with same single drive on youtube.

Very worried about reported loss in performance.
