It means I have to get up earlier in the morning to chop veg and meat etc to put in it and it only ever takes me about 30mins tops in the evening to cook a meal anyway!

Slow cookers are awesome. Slow cooked lamb shanks cannot be replicated easily.
Brown the meat just to seal it. Whack it in the slow cooker. Add veg. Add some liquid. Red wine, ale, whatever. You cannot go wrong really.
