Plugged the laptop into the Westfield to have a look at the fuelling and found a problem I didn't even know existed! Vibration of me brushing my hand against one of the water temperature sensor cables would cause it to drop to reading -20 and jump to reading +90, and the ECU would consequently alter the injection time and ignition advance angle . Wonder what the vibration of four angry pistons doing 8000RPM would be like compared with me moving about! :p

Replaced the cable/connector and it's all sorted now, but that's a problem I didn't even know was there :D.

6 year old 140k Audi for £10k.

Doesnt look incredibly cheap to me. Remember it's an S4 not an RS4 so it's hardly some sort of M3 rival is it.

Way to totally miss the point. I was explaining how I didnt feel it was 'too cheap'.

And I was saying if everyone took such a highly rational approach to cars as you did in your opening line, then only some cars would be deemed "good value" meaning everyone would have a Mondeo.

I wasn't commenting on your point, I was making my own that I'm glad nobody sees cars like this in such a black and white light. I would have never bought my car had I looked at it like that, there were plenty of cars that were, on paper, much better. Do I regret it? No, its what my heart wanted, and my head is making it work.

Using that approach this is just a 6 month old Focus with 8300 miles. So it must be bad value at £38k.*

I know you probably made your initial point for comic effect and to re-enforce your point, because you know full well its not that simple surely? I probably shouldn't have jumped on that point either, but I did, so here I am, defending it :p

*It probably is, but putting a value on a run out hot Ford limited to 500 cars is always difficult, and it was probably 40K after options when new anyway....

Just got overtaken on a single carriageway for the first time since owning the ST. Feels bad man :( :p

In my defence it was terrential rain, the roads had huge puddles in them and visibility was awful.

Interestingly the guy who did it then continued on and ran a red light  It's like the rain brought out the crazies in him.

It's still a very capable and fast car.
E46 M3s at this price range will be much older and tired cars.

I don't think anything else comes close for what you get. If you don't want anything too lairy, the 4WD is brilliant and you get somewhere refined and fully loaded in which to blast along.

What are you talking about?

MrLOL implied that he thought it was 'too cheap' - ie, perhaps there was something wrong with it, maybe it was a write off or something.

I simply replied saying I didnt think it was 'too cheap', ie, thats probably about what its worth.

Nothing more, nothing less.

You don't need to lecture me on the value of taking a less black and white approach to cars and buying 140,000 mile German stuff....

And the Audi isn't going to cost anywhere near as much as that old S to run is it?

I wouldn't be so quick to say that. Both have the potential to throw up some eye watering bills.

I'll be honest and admit that I've never seen the attraction to those S4s.

No turbos though, so it's not as bad as the B5 S4. I think as long as you're aware that when it breaks it's expensive (much like BMWs), I don't think it'll be that bad. Plus see the work that's just been carried out.

I always think people who list thousands of quid of work are shooting themselves in the foot a bit. It's like saying 'Look how much this thing just cost me. This could be you'.

So are you not going to mention how much work you've had done to the 530i at all when it comes to sale time? ;)
