He's thinking about repsraying it for god's sake !

I was saying that rather than respraying it, just get the worst of the dents removed (i havent seen the car so don't know how many / how bad they are) and get it polished.

Ideally he needs to find somebody with a polisher who will give him his time for beer money rather than paying £400 for a detail. But if really can't find anybody, paying somebody to detail it is going to be cheaper than getting various body panels resprayed !

Forgetting the detailing (which I'm not going to bother with) it isn't bad advice.

The dent man is cheap. £15 a panel :).

Excellent.

Then just find somebody to help you polish it. Peanuts !

Turn up to an OcUK meet and i'm sure you can get somebody with a very expensive SLR to take you a few nice photos too :)

£15 a panel is cheap!

One of the incredibly few perks of working in the motor trade :).

If a machine polish seriously makes a difference I might see if one of the coachworks lads wants some beer money in exchange for a few hours of their Saturday... I could maybe be mega cheeky and see if they'd have time to quickly blow over the front bumper for me to...

A plan might be forming here .

thats would i'd do.

Its amazing how much a good polish can bring the paint up. It will almost certainly sort out the flat paint on one of the panels you mentioned.

You may not be able to machine polish the flaking paint, but you can probably hand polish it and hide it as best as possible.

Just don't mention it in the ads and then leave it up the person on the day to decide if it puts them off. It is as you say, a 20 year old car, but people are quick to judge when flicking through classifieds.

So revised plan is now

A) some new plates for £20

B) remove some dings for £30 / £45 or so.

C) get somebody to help you polish it / bring the paint up as best you can. £a crate of stella.

D) get somebody at the OcUK RR day to take some nice high quality photos for you. £free.

E) Profit ? :D

F) At the last moment begin flaking and decide to keep car.

G) Repeat process of trying to sell it again in 4-6 months time.

That's how we roll .

Quick question (doesn't deserve a new thread):

On BMW's iDrive, is it possible to remove the SatNav split screen from the TV display so it expands to the full screen? I can't find any options/settings for it

Yes, but I can't remember where the option is :p
Either you have to push down when you're in the right-hand box, or it'll be hidden in some stupid submenu somewhere.

No, this is not possible. The pre CIC iDrive system does not offer full screen navigation. You can change what is displayed in the Assist window, but you cannot remove it.

:( Yeah I found out, you can blank the assistance window but it won't expand the other screen. This iDrive is going to take some tinkering to get used to, took me an hour to find how to randomize the CD tracks! :o

On a ****ed off note, some **** has already keyed my drivers window, and that was in the work car park :( Hates gonna hate n all that but it's seriously ****ing ridiculous!

Only picked it up yesterday morning! Drove it straight from BMW to work, and it was parked up for less than two hours before I went to show it to one of my colleagues and that's when I saw someone had scratched it :( :(

There is CCTV all over but unfortunately that part (and a couple of other areas) of the car park is blocked by trees!

Going to try find out if I can get it filled in or something, or maybe replace the window. It's very thin so I could live with it but I just don't want to as I see it every time I get in the car :(
