Would you get 3-400 more? A lot of people see bodywork as a bad thing as it can hide stuff, so you could sell it with "look its got new paint!" as that can put people off.

I'd sooner knock £100-200 and get it out the door, but it depends how much you want to sell it. With private sales, patience is everything. Has anyone even enquired about it?

I could get the extra money, but like I said, its a whole different market with a lot fewer people in it.

People looking to buy these cars seem to fall into two categories. One just want cheap performance. They are the type of people who are only willing to spend around a grand and don't really have many concerns or cares past the fact that its only 280bhp under the bonnet. The others are usually older guys willing to pay a bit more for a tidy example.

My car is in no mans land. I'm not going to take '£900 cash today, mate' from some knuckle dragger but it isn't nearly tidy enough to for me to want to put it into the 2k market with my head held high. £400 spent on it? Yes, It'd be a tidy car, but it is a limited market. Equally I'm just not dropping it a few quid for a quick sale because I don't NEED it gone, but I simply don't have the spare cash to enjoy it like I used to. For the sake of squaring off my O.D, getting a bit of money to fall back on and having an extra £140 a month to play with selling it is something to look into, but I'm not going to get mugged on the price.

Just had a thought regarding selling my car. I won't deny that the bodywork lets it down a bit. I'm due to get a bit of a bonus this month, do you lot think it would be worth investing a few quid on sorting the bodywork out and then re advertising it at a higher price?

My thinking is that I've got it up for £1400 at the moment and am only willing to move a few quid. What about me spending £300-£400, getting all/most of the dings pulled out, the spoiler and front bumper painted/filled it (flaking paint on the spoiler and flat paint on the bumper) and painting the wheels to sliver rather than the black they're in now.

Get some great pictures done, stump up for a premium ad on Pistonheads and eBay then get a bit cheeky and ask low/mid 2s, with the thought of taking 2 at a minimum.

Tidy ones do change hands for that sort of money, but very occasionally. My thinking is that getting the bodywork sorted will truly set mine apart from the dregs because tidy soarers not owned by knuckle draggers are a rare thing.

What's going to get me a easier sell? Tidy but expensive or tatty but cheap(ish)?

Spend the afternoon with some t-cut & polish, give it a damn good vacum, go anal , get the seats out , vac all those crevices etc

Touch up the rubber / plastic trim with a wd/40 soaked rag.

It'll look a lot better, and save you some cash! :D

I dont think you are ever going to sell it then, because frankly 900 quid sounds reasonable.

To be fair fox, that's your opinion because you certainly aren't basing it on fact :)

I know these cars and I know the market that they sell in fairly well. Given the fact that I could pull off parts worth more than £900 in a weekend I'm confident to say that I can expect a little bit more than that.

You've made it quite clear that you don't like my car over the last year. Change the tune :p.

Edit:

And there's me thinking I'd be cheeky asking £2.5k for a tidy one :D

So whats the problem? Why are you whinging about being stuck in no-mans-land with a car not good enough for the minters but only being offered 900 quid from chancers? :p

I'm asking if people think I should say where I am and hope that someone looking at the lower end of the market is willing to spend a extra couple of quid to meet me or invest a couple of quid and go for tidy car money :).

That's me, yeah :).

My suggestion?

Get some decent pics up - one where the exhaust isn't scraping on the kerb ;) Makes it look like you don't give a toss about the car.

Also, the exhausts (this topic has been covered many times) look utterly outlandish and make it look like another 17yr olds chavs wet dream.

If you replaced them, took the larger dinks and paint issues out then yes, I would put it up around £2k.

You say it'll look good in the ad if its polished up, which also says to potential buyers "I cba to polish it"

Get it polished up and remove that bit from the text, and some better photo's.

Still not mod?
